Yeah, that CD is in my limited collection

(you know the one from the 90s, where modern artists covered the songs)

I hit the TT bike again, and managed to spend a lot of time in the position, but when I tried an interval at race pace (~360W), after 5 minutes, my legs and arms started going numb. This happened last year too, and I worked it out with more training. So, I'll try to break out the TT bike a couple times/week.

(state TTT championships are coming up, and I'm on RX's 4-man team )

I dunno, but I feel your pain. Doing anything physical that doesn't involve riding a bike is rather difficult.

Ok, due to some circumstances, not feeling great and a little laziness I have been off the bike for 7 days. Was intending to get around 90 minurtes in this morning at a tempo pace.

So, I get 2.25 miles out and I hear this rythmic tick, tick, tick, then I started feeling bouncy while peadling. Crap - a rear flat. Picked up a construction staple. No sweat, I found the staple, pulled it out and I’m getting quicker with fixing flats. Pull the wheel, take out old tube, get new tube in start pumping and my frame pump (Topeak Road Morph)stops working. I managed to gert 40 lbs of pressure in (should be about 110) and limp home. I pumped the tire up and was DETERMINED to at least get 30 minutes in. So I took off again.

So I basically got a 1x40 threshold workout. So that worked out OK. Legs felt good, but I can tell my fitness is down a bit with the week off.

Got out of bed to late to do the 1x30' tempo climb I wanted to this morning. Ended up doing 2x15' z4 on the side of the damn highway instead. When it comes to threshold work I would almost ALWAYS rather climb.....

Started the first one within 30 min of rising from bed and within 12 min of being on the road. I almost cramped. 2nd interval felt alot better.

It's a rest week so I cut it slightly short and the intensity was down slightly to but I still feel like I got a good workout.

A friend of mine asked me if I could hold my breath longer than him under water. I held it for like 10 seconds.

"What?!! You should have huge lungs from all your training."

Rode around for 1 hr @ .91 IF last night, it was a fun little ride. Though I suppose if it was fun I wasn't working hard enough..

Got a new stem (2 cm longer) and it feels great. I'm not sure how I've ridden my bike set up the way it was for almost two years now..

I figured out how to time my 2 minute V02s in the early morning dark.
(that's your first mistake. doing V02s in the dark. what's wrong with you, boy?)

I've got a few hardcore darkstep tracks that I've cut into 2:05 pieces. Hit play. JUMP! Then continue until the track ends. No need to look at my timer - even if I could.
(that's your second mistake. listening to music on your bike. something is really wrong with you, boy?)

So, tomorrow will look like so:
20min warmup
6x2min Vo2s, 2min rest
30min tempo (loop back to start)
6x2min Vo2s, 2min rest
Ride home.

I cannot ride w/o tunes. Your other senses kick in to compensate, or something.

Well, you could do them in the AWC zone, and the 2 minute recovery should put your NP in the VO2 zone. So, maybe do two sets of three intervals?

My current status: Terrible.

Went from 15-20 hours a week to 8 in the past week. Knee is killing me and I ate In & Out Burger today. I need to get back on track to get ready for next season.

Did my Solvang loop again this morning. After about a 5 minute warmup it is narly 40 minutes straight of climbing. I got a flat on the freeway (fun!) and spent a few minutes fixing it, then twice as long trying to get all the ants off of me! Going by time, this was one of the slowest times I did the loop recently... but the nice thing about having the power meter is that I know that I averaged about 5W higher than the last few times

What is your route for that ride? I did a solvang loop my second week here and hammered it with a guy from the tri-team, trading pulls ect for atleast 1/3 or the ride, pretty exhausting. I think we did it in about that long, maybe closer to 4 hours.

Too bad I can't make the thursday ride; I might actually be able to challenge you up some of the hills provided i'm fresh and you rode far this morning.

Forgot to register for the TT this weekend. I do however have my disc cover installed on my PT wheel, my position dialed in, and the cold I picked up last weekend almost whooped. It was a bad one for about 3 days...

Yesterday's workout was tough but fun.

I went out today for 2x15 tempo intervals followed by a 1x15 Lactate buffering set (3 mins 80% then 2 min 120%). My legs almost locked up for the last 120% set. I wasn't feeling terribly strong today.

I've honestly felt weaker and weaker since the end of june, and I'm not sure what my numbers mean since I can't really compare my workouts from april to now.

From Feb-May when I was riding maybe 2-3x a week, going out for hard 1.5-3 hour rides for about 6ish hours a week. In may once I started being coached, I decreased my intensity a TON but more or less doubled the volume. TSS went up a bunch as well.

I'm going to go with the 'it takes your body time to get used to this stuff' answer since it seems that my body's just trying to adapt to doing as much riding in 1 week that I used to do in 3 weeks haha. I'll have to see how all this plays out. I almost want to do my own thing over winter.

I also think I made a bit of a bad decision today.
I swapped my stem from a 100 to 110, and it felt better. Not sure if my legs not being there was a function of that. With the 100, I kept feeling that I wanted to reach a little more forward for the hoods/drops and the back felt a little scrunched. Stem angle is the same for both (6 deg rise), so if anything, I'm more stretched out with a hair less drop.

Could the 'bad legs' today be a function of the stem swap at all?

Eff it: Not taking any chances. I'll swap the stem back and swap back after the race. Feel free to chime in if you wish

^^Maybe take a week completely off? Unless you have any important races take a week off and just work on your builds and just take it easy? Sleep and eat and lounge and whatnot. Just a suggestion, it might be for the best after being sick and not feeling 100% for a while.

As for me, I did some more base miles. I'm also really focusing on spinning faster. I normally spin at about 90 rpm on the flats and 55ish on the hills. I've been working on maintaining 100rpm on the flats and 60-65 rpm on the hills. Its been going good on the flats, no bouncing but on the hills its pretty rough for me to keep up the cadence.

I was off for friday saturday last week and monday tues this week.

As for the stem swap thing, I think I'm going to make a few small adjustments and see how things go on the recovery ride. I know I'm not supposed to go hard on the easy days, but I'll try a 5 min climb to see how the setup feels going uphill. It should be a nice little opener for saturday as well.

Maybe cycling isn't your sport? Bowling or billiards might be more your speed.
