Sucks to end a nice trip on fast food or airport fare.

I had a nice ride. 68 miles with a few thousand feet of climbing and I felt pretty good considering I'm me. They didn't even have to wait long for me after the longer climbs. Only 5 of us because the goats did the longer mountain ride. One of them encouraged me to go with them and said she wouldn't mind waiting. She doesn't realize how much more she would be waiting than she did a few years ago.
Anyway I hope they had as nice a ride as we did.
And one friend who I haven't seen much for a while told me he hopes he can ride like I do when he is my age. He's 55, punk kid.

You missed out on a proper Smokies vacation.
Nonetheless, will you now admit Velo Vol was correct about the epicness of the Southern Appalachians, oldest mountains on Earth*?

I previously mentioned that one of the guys in my club is moving to NZ at the end of the month. One of the things that he wanted to do before leaving was to get in one last, long ride through a couple of his favorite areas. It took a little cajoling, but "my friend is literally moving to the other side of the world" works wonders on spouses, so I got clearance to ride with him.
Last night, he found out that, because of... stuff... he wouldn't be able to ride, after all. Did I tell my wonderful wife that? Heck no - I got clearance for a long ride so I was going on a farewell ride without him . Windy as ****, almost twice as long as any ride that I've done this year (90 miles total), and it started to get hurty towards the tail end, but it was good to get in some work on a warm, sunny day (which have been nonexistent this spring).
Oh, and I looked fab in my newish, ******y, matchy-matchy Rapha kit I haven't really had much of an opportunity to wear 'em in earnest, but both the jersey and the bibs are awesome

My friend who has a place in Mallorca did a 1/2 IM there today. His goal was to have fun and beat his son, who is half his age. Apparently the son did not train much for the event, so the father beat the son’s time by over an hour.
We all hope to be doing the 312 there this time next year.

My iPad “photos” app shows me stuff every few days. From today’s notification, a younger guy with a Viner Stella Pro and an all wool kit:

Hey, speaking of matchy-matchy, my kit and my ride matched today. Red bike with white bar tape and saddle, and some black accents like the CF Ergo blades, paired with white helmet, red jersey, black bibs, and white shoes and socks. Also white gloves, which is how I keep white bar tape white.
Except it was bike shop-logoed apparel -- t-shirt, hoodie, mask.

Hey, you look just like Howie Long.
I know you are not him because you have too much free time on Sundays.
