Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sucks to end a nice trip on fast food or airport fare.

I had a nice ride. 68 miles with a few thousand feet of climbing and I felt pretty good considering I'm me. They didn't even have to wait long for me after the longer climbs. Only 5 of us because the goats did the longer mountain ride. One of them encouraged me to go with them and said she wouldn't mind waiting. She doesn't realize how much more she would be waiting than she did a few years ago.
Anyway I hope they had as nice a ride as we did.
And one friend who I haven't seen much for a while told me he hopes he can ride like I do when he is my age. He's 55, punk kid.

Nonetheless, will you now admit Velo Vol was correct about the epicness of the Southern Appalachians, oldest mountains on Earth*?

Last night, he found out that, because of... stuff... he wouldn't be able to ride, after all. Did I tell my wonderful wife that? Heck no - I got clearance for a long ride so I was going on a farewell ride without him . Windy as ****, almost twice as long as any ride that I've done this year (90 miles total), and it started to get hurty towards the tail end, but it was good to get in some work on a warm, sunny day (which have been nonexistent this spring).

Oh, and I looked fab in my newish, ******y, matchy-matchy Rapha kit I haven't really had much of an opportunity to wear 'em in earnest, but both the jersey and the bibs are awesome

Kudos. Did you master the bidon flip yet??

Certainly they are impressive. I concede the point.

My friend who has a place in Mallorca did a 1/2 IM there today. His goal was to have fun and beat his son, who is half his age. Apparently the son did not train much for the event, so the father beat the son’s time by over an hour.

We all hope to be doing the 312 there this time next year.

Not yet. I haven't been able to practice - I don't have any bidons, I only have water bottles.

My iPad “photos” app shows me stuff every few days. From today’s notification, a younger guy with a Viner Stella Pro and an all wool kit:

Same.

Except it was bike shop-logoed apparel -- t-shirt, hoodie, mask.

A few years ago, a couple of guys asked me to take their picture after a run. It was a father and son who just completed a 10 mile run together. The son was in his 20s, and the dad looked to be about my age (early 60s). I was impressed, and they seemed really excited they could do it together.

Made me wish I could get my kid on a bike.
