Met some friends for coffee at the Willows and had planned a ride along the Ironhorse. No go...

Same area near high water mark. You can see how far up it was on the overpass...

I go through that one and another one on my commute. There are frequently homeless folks camped out underneath there trying to stay dry and warm... I'm sure the authorities didn't lock them in there.

Between the high water and CalTrans moving them off the freeway they have spread out to other areas. Anything they left behind is out in the bay by now.

That path will be at least a few inches deep in mud after the rain stops. I went through there a fews years back and slogged through it. The mud was very abrasive too, took the paint right off the inside of my forks. Don’t go much through there these days after an encounter with a man and a woman screaming at each other from each side of the path. I just sped up and ducked between them. Too bad, that used to be a really good ride, no road crossing for a long way. Heavy rain starting right now in Walnut Creek. (4:50pm)

Daaaaaaamn. Today was an e-ticket ride. The NWS says winds got up to 94 mph on Upper Bear River Rd. Trees down everywhere, too many on people's houses. Power outages everywhere, but at least PG&E saw this one coming; my house was only out just shy of 3 hours. We're taking a breath before the next round.

I put another 3 gallons of gas in the generator.

This is kind of cool, especially if you zoom out:

Less rain this time, but more damage. I understand the worst has yet to come...

Last year was the driest January on record, IIRC. I started the year with a lot of IRL riding - 119 miles by January 15th. This year, I've only managed 13.3 on the 1st because road closures prevented me getting anywhere. And that's it. And here's what the next 10 days look like:

I might have to just go ahead and ride on days when it's showering, because otherwise I'll have to be able to tolerate 3 hours on Zwift to get in the time/miles.

It's reminding me a lot of January of 1982, when I first moved to the Bay Area - a big storm every other day for a month.

In the Navy I moved from Bremerton to Vallejo in December of 83 - stayed at a hotel near Hwy 37, parked the U-haul, went looking for an apartment in the morning, came back to a flooded truck... up to the axles.

Hey, you guys are still here!!! 😁 Actually, I guess it was me, that went missing a bit. 🤔😉

I got swirled around a bit, by the American River, the night after my last post here. I thought I left a LOT of room for the river, but it just went nuts, and I woke up around 3:30 AM, with a wet sleeping bag. 😲
I lost a bag full of groceries and one of my bungie cords, for my sleeping bag, lol, but otherwise I'm fine, and "maybe" slightly wiser about floods. 🤔😉

Man, there are a lot of trees down. 😲 I got to downtown Sacramento, and it looks pretty scary, with lots of traffic lights still out & stuff like that.

On the bright side, someone steered me to a place, where I got a new tent & sleeping bag, for free. 😋😁😉

Last night when I picked up The Older Boy after his shift, we saw the moon in a nice, mostly clear sky. I told him, "Don't get used to it."

That Monday forecast is nuts.

There's a video going around social media with a guy surfing a rapid on the American River but I can't figure out how to embed it here. Link might work

I'm not too surprised, it has some pretty good whitecaps, this morning still. I'll have to re-check the forecast, all I remember is today is decent, then a lot more rainy days ahead. 😒

I posted this in the touring forum already, bt it fits here too. This is the fishing pier for handicapped folks, also in Carmichael, from my ride this morning. Don't cruise down there in your wheelchair till it dries up some.😋😁😉

I had this notion I might ride on Sunday, since it's supposed to be only occasional showers rather than actual rain. Then I saw that the NWS is expecting heavy winds, with gusts up to 40 mph. So, no.

In the Classic & Vintage subforum, there's a thread titled "the Dutch are crazy". They purposely ride into 75 mph headwinds. 🙄🙃😉

Power, Greed and Extortion says they will restore our power Saturday at 8pm, just in time to have it knocked out by the next windstorm.

Big blow tonight. My house has half a dozen 35 year old redwoods way too close and I’m watching them sway. Worried they’ll crash down on the neighbors’ houses. My wife chose this place. She’s sound asleep
