Thanks for the welcome guys!
The MKM rides great - I'm used to a more upright hybrid-style upright ride so this is my sports car in comparison with a little more aggressive posture and a much lighter frame. I thought I might feel limited by the gearing but having 10 speeds is fine - I'm riding to work and the route only has about 200' elevation gain/loss so it works well.
The only niggle is that the guy before me was a stickler for using original parts - which seems to have extended to original NOS brake pads. They are the kind with cotton threads running through them, and they seem to stop about as well as having a block of wood in there. My local LBS is swapping those out for Kool Stops and I think after that I'll be set!

This is my 1973 Schwinn Continental. It's set up with cheapy, modern parts, and it weighs 34.4 pounds as shown. It's fun to ride because it's so noticeably springy; I guess because of of all the super skinny tubing.

Most certainly welcome, @Straightblock, Its a tough fight, but it is doable. Sounds like she has the attitude and drive to beat that horrid disease, and a good partner in her fight, too.

tyler_fred-I don't know if you deleted your last post or the moderators did, but I got a laugh out of it.
My wife is definitely the classier half of our tandem team. When she's not riding stoker, she rides this Trek 640. It originally had a full Gran Sport group, but I gave it a wider gear range with Shimano 7 speed indexed shifters & XT rear derailleur.

Hi All,
Here is my Performance Bike Co "Vitesse" that I bought new back in 1988. It was my first decent bike purchase. Fast forward to years later, the bike was relegated to the shop rafters having had all parts stripped from it. This year I decided to rejuvenate it with a DIY paint job and a parts bin rebuild. I laced the original Mavic MA's to Shimano 5500 hubs and now run 2x8 12-25. Everything else I used was whatever I had laying around. I wanted this to be a fun project so I opted to personalize the bike with my C&V User ID, "Tyler Fred". Tyler Fred was my son's nickname as a toddler twenty years ago.
I designed the decals in Inkscape and had a local sign shop print them. I painted the bike with spray-can DupliColor, Rustoleum and SprayMax 2K urethane. Pics don't show it but this thing really shines. I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Beautiful bike, with that backstory you probably added another couple of hundred to its value. Although, I imagine you place much more value on it than any price could bring. I'm a sucker for white panels on a silver-blue frameset, yours just pops for me.

The funny thing is that I finished it this past weekend, and my son hasn't seen it yet, nor does he know it exists.

1974 Raleigh International
I just got done restoring the frame.
It's set up as a sport tourer with wide-range gearing, 27x1-1/4 wheels, and randonneur bars-- the way International's should have been in the first place!
Parts are a British-Italian mix. The saddle is from my first International that I had from 1977-82.
Ofmega CX triple crank, Campagnolo NR RD w/Soma cage, Shimano HG FW
GB 88 brakes. You don't see these every day, they work about as well as any other vintage CP.
The finish is a 2-part Dupont automotive paint, a metallic base with a copper-tinted clear sprayed over. At first it looked really light, but with each successive coat it got darker until I figured it was "just right".
