Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I asked the little lady if she wanted to go to the protest in downtown PHX tonight. She emphatically said no.

At the risk of stereotyping, a good number of the people engaged in violence (The protests started out peacefully and involved families) looked to be young agitators. There is a fairly healthy population of anarchists in the city.

Yup. Quaint.

Large swaths of the city have already been leveled. Today, City Council and community board members have been very, very strongly urging residents to observe the curfew and stay in tonight. Rumor mill has it that LE and National Guard are authorized to use lethal force and that they're primarily looking for white nationalists/anarchists from out-of-state who have convened and have been infiltrating protests, burning down buildings and inciting looting/riots in an effort to drive the narrative, sow more dissension along racial lines and rally more asshats to their cause.

So we got that goin' fer us, which is nice.

Apparently my Hammer is indeed dead-dead; the shop is going to talk to Saris on Monday and see if it's fixable at the factory. I suspect it's time for Taps and pouring one out.

A guy I know who is a huge Bernie supporter and would help organize rallies with cooperation of the police says the cops told him to be mindful of the Black Bloc, which isn’t what its name might imply.
