It is petty when you have to ride a few extra miles just to pass a 71 year old man.

I had a check up one time and as the visit was almost over, the doc asked if I had any other concerns and I said my left knee was aching under the knee cap. He said, “Does your right knee hurt?” To which I replied, “No.”
He said, “Well, they’re the same age so I don’t think there’s a problem. See you next year.”
Wut?

6.3 miles, that was the margin. If it had been more, I wouldn’t have bothered. Petty, yes.
I must have really needed the sleep this morning, or maybe it was the fact that it was raining. Couldn’t get up, hopefully I can get out this afternoon.

I could've gotten up close to them because I was going through the same gate as them, but I stayed well back and waited for them to get through the gate because approaching cattle or horses from behind can spook them sometimes.

There must have been a cattle drive within the last week or so because the road in that area had lots of pies decaying (and squashed by vehicles) in the road. I have seen some photos of drives that go into town there.

It's a sure sign of fall when datlas is considering taking the Reynolds Crabon wheels off for the year and going to his Psimet2001 hand-built aluminum clinchers.

Three, completely by luck, since I had about 4 words for the third guess and it could have been any of them.

Broke a spoke on my MTB yesterday. I'm pretty sure it was impact from a rock that was bouncing along the fireroad descent we were on. It's a bummer, but I'm REALLY impressed with these Stan's Podium SRD wheels - super light (1300g), carbon rims, and way more durable than expected. Despite the low spoke count and low profile rim, the wheel stayed pretty true, even missing a spoke. Granted, a disc brake wheel only needs to be true enough so the tire doesn't rub the frame, but it didn't seem significantly different than when it had all its spokes. I pulled the rest of the spoke out through the hub, and finished my ride with zero issues.

My transition to living back there will be difficult.
I had a discussion with Mrs. GJ this weekend. She was saying that she's worried that people from Florida will move to Buffalo to escape climate change. I said if they're trying to escape hurricanes, they'll move to North Carolina or other Southern states because so many of them LEFT the North East specifically to get away from the cold. Take my sister, for example. Southern New Jersey was too cold for her, and she's now gone through 2 big hurricanes hitting within 50 miles of her. I can't see her moving anywhere cold.
Then we discussed how cold it actually is. I said, "Crawl into the freezer downstairs, and then realize that's a WARM day in Buffalo in February!", plus I mentioned the 7 feet of snow a year. She said, "You'll be retired! Why would you need to leave the house?" I said, "What if one of us needs an ambulance?"

It's reaching that weird time of year, when y'all Back East are wearing jackets and leg warmers if not actual tights, and I'm still wearing short sleeve jerseys and looking forward to another month of warm, dry riding.

How many spokes on those wheels? Mine are 28 for some reason and 35mm internal width. Odd combination.

Well, we're already in a 1600 sq.ft. ranch house, so there's not a lot of downsizing left. At the moment, Mrs. GJ keeps finding LARGER houses Back East. I think she has to go through the "House I've Always Wanted" stage, which I went through a year or so ago. The thing is, where we are is perfect in a way that even moving a little bit would wreck it, and not even gain us much in affordability. Even moving 20 miles inland, the summer temps are WAY higher, for example. Move toward the coast, and it's a LITTLE cheaper but you could go weeks without seeing the sun.
