Don't worry, Shimano has your backs! In the near future they'll release a new line of cranks/chainrings which will replace those pesky Hollowtech items. The new line of products will have an "all new technology" with a name like "InvisiCore." Suprisingly, it will look identical to the Hollowtech stuff, but will be "all new."

Once a manufacturer offers a recall like this, does it go on indefinitely, or is there a set window to seek replacement?
Both my road bikes have 9000 cranks, which I really like. I imagine they will pass inspection. They look good to me. But it doesn't exactly inspire a ton of confidence during the next field sprint.
If I start seeing the crank separate three years from now, will they replace them then?
I'm also wondering how Frankenstein-y the replacement 11-speed 9100 chain rings are going to look on the 12-speed 9200 crank arms. Anyone have both 9100 and 9200 cranks? Poring over the photos online, it looks like there might be some difference in finish and flow of the lines.

This is why I stick since a long time with the Dura Ace FC 7700 and Dura Ace FC 7800 which are among the most reliable and durable cranksets from shimano

But the 7800s are so ugly! I much prefer the 7410, The Most Beautiful Crankset Ever Made.

I have an Ultegra crank that meets the recall requirements...now waiting for Oct 1 to begin the procedure

It seems like their process is up and running for inspection and documentation, though they hadn’t yet flagged a crank that needed replacement. Supposedly, Shimano isn’t promising a like-for-like replacement, and the LBS theorized that there was a possibility that replacement cranks could be from another line (ie, 105 replacing an Ultegra, R8100 replacing R8000?), or even different sizing (arms and chainrings), depending on what Shimano sends them. If that’s truly the case, I’d be disappointed. I wouldn’t want to bring in a Dura-Ace 50/34 172.5 and get an Ultegra 52/36 175 on the other end…

Why wait? My local LBS inspected it on Friday, got it back on Saturday. No issues for me, but he did say my creaking was likely from a dry BB and loose chainring bolts.

My crank shows no signs of delamination and I would be sorely pissed if they took my Ultegra 50/34 165mm cranks and replaced it with something differently sized.
Apparently they are not learning anything from their manufacturing screwup and are playing the odds...I suspect a high pay out law suit where physical injury occurs and a seemingly careless response may change their mind...as well as the govt's taking some sort of action.

The Hollowtech crank recall is a nightmare for riders, shops and Shimano.

Have a look at the Hambini video where he starts twisting on the crank arm.

In case you're wondering, she's pretty low mileage at ~4,300mi, I'm not exactly a torque monster (about 200w continuous), and I rarely go out in the wet (less opportunity for moisture to wash away grease).

I never grease mine. I only put a light coating of tri-flow on before I put it in.
Same with the crank spindle and the bottom bracket.

Interesting. Canyon just emailed me to alert me about the recall, so they have a record of who bought their bikes when. But they should also know that the bike I bought from them came equipped with an R7000 groupset, so it's not affected. Abundance of caution, I suppose.

My wife's back-up bike has a 6800 crank (on the recall) with 35k-40k miles on it. I had it in today for a separate issue and the mechanic deemed the drive side crank arm as "suspicious." He said he'd reach out to Shimano as soon as they start accepting claims.

Only pictures I have seen online are issues with drive side crank arm; have not read or seen any issues with the non-drive side.
