What kind of wheels did you get? I want a pair of American Classic 420s, but I need a bit more cash first

The ride is similar to the shock absorption capabilities of my full suspension GT LS1... it's that smooth over the roughest surfaces. That said, there's a sense of being in total contact with the road at all times WITHOUT aluminum's sting.
Ahhh the joys of carbon.
I also tried the Kestrel Evoke and the Cervelo 2.5 carbon. Both were very nice but the Roubaix's easy-on-the-body geometry make this bike (for me) the perfect long distance training/fitness vehicle while the DA set-up provides an ultra precise drivetrain.
The Pro's fit and finish is elegant with a very low key/high end look and feel that's much nicer than the Cervelo or Kestrel.
Highly recommended.

Hoorah for timmhaan, sailor, and I for getting rid (or wanting to get rid of) the Shimano's. I just got my set of Speed Dream's in (new model with Aerohead rims, wheelsmith spokes, and White Industry hubs at 1407g) and am loving them compared to the Shimano's.

Hey Laguna, nice ride.
I'm looking at the R2.5. How did you like the ride? Comfortable? Aggressive? I'm looking for something in between and have heard the R2.5 is a good mix of the two. Any negatives, other than the Roubaix fit you better?
Thanks
f

Well, the R2.5 is a great combination of racing geometry and carbon comfort. I really, really loved it and can easily see myself on this bike if I hadn't ridden the Roubaix. The ride was similar to the Kestrel but with a bit more edge if that makes sense. The overall fit and finish doesn't come up to the extremely high standards of the Roubaix Pro but that wouldn't stop me even though I'm very picky about such things.
The Roubaix did it for me because I'm not an avid road rider and I'm mainly using it to cardio train for big wave surfing. This Saturday I'll be heading to the High Sierras to train at altitude for two weeks with a guy who is an absolute road fanatic. He rides an R2.5.

2003 Cannondale Team Frame
The Bicycle began early in 2004 as a cheap project as I got a deal on the frame from Ebay. Then I got other Ebay deals on 2003 Campagnolo Record components. Anyway it evolved into a not so cheap project, about $1400. The parts were all purchased from Ebay and came from NYC to California, Canada and UK.
- Seat: Selle Italia Flite Gel
- Seat Post: Carbon from a MASI
- Handelbar & Stem: 3TTT "THE"
- Brakes: Campagnolo Record
- Shifters: Shimano Bar-End
- Crank: Campagnolo Record 53X39
- Bottom Bracket: Campagnolo Chorus
- Pedals: Crank Brothers Candy SL (Gray)
- Front Hub: Campagnolo Record
- Rear Hub: Dura-Ace
- Front Derailleur: Campagnolo Record
- Rear Derailleur: Dura-Ace
- Cassette: Ultegra 9 12-27
- RIMS: Mavic Relflex Tubular
- Spokes: Wheelsmith XL14 Butted
- Tires: Continental Sprinter Tubular
Since the picture was taken I have changed the seat to a Selle Italia SLR and the Wheelset is now Mavic Cosmos(Black) with Michelin Pro Race Tires(Black)

Well, right now I have a Trek 1000 which is a GREAT bike to start out with. Next week or so my new 2005 Felt F15 should be arriving, along with the bill and divorce papers.

Lots of fun building this up to where it's at today. Got a little carried away with the $$$ (moreso than I thought til I did the spreadsheet!) Oh well, I made a killer deal on the wheelset and made it all worth while.

MackDaddy: Take off those valve nuts and save at least another 2 grams. I am impressed that you accounted for the weight of lube and dust.
Seriously, though. Very handsome machine.

Reb Bull Pro SL 4000 from the German catalog house Roseversand.
Alu frame 55 cm black anodized, 2004 Dura Ace with 12-27 sprocket set (lots of 16%-to-18% grades here in my part of Germany), upgraded the wheels to Mavix Ksyrium Elite, Nokon cables, Conti Attack / Force tires. About 7.8 kg without pedals, computer, etc.
Other bike (no pic): Hercules with 27-speed Tiagra and no-name frame and components. It is now in the cellar for riding on the roller and will come out on winter rides when I don't want to get the "good" bike all salty and wet.
