I've also always wanted to do a ride from Winona to Hastings or Hasting to Winona (depending on the wind), but the logistics of it would be difficult...

BTW, this is the anniversary of our epic tandem crash. Hard to believe it's been a year.
Total was 24 broken bones including one scapula, one clavicle, one pelvis (3x), one sternum, and the rest in ribs and minor small bones. Four days intubation and a drain for a pleural effusion. The worst was my wife couldn't drive for 5 weeks and me for 6 weeks. Luckily, we belong to two cycling clubs and the members kept us in food and drove us to medical appointments for which we are eternally grateful.
We rode our tandem by the crash site yesterday at a docile 18 mph instead of the 25.5 mph that our Garmin file last recorded during the crash.
We're pretty much recovered but both have odd and end residual joint aches. Still, we feel lucky and it hasn't kept us from riding. Cycle on!

Good ride today. Perfect weather. Good, but tempered by news that a friend was in a bad crash this morning, no life threatening injuries but he is in the hospital with a concussion, skull fracture, pneumothorax, clavicle and rib fractures.
Cycling is wonderful but crashes suck the big one.

Hand ups to a bike with those flimsy little bottles equal nothing but trouble.

I don't get the whole hand up for a 13.5 mile ride anyway. I had a bottle on my bike waiting for me. I didn't take a hand up until the final 5k run. I didn't attempt to grab the Gatorade and drink it on the move either. I stopped, took it, drank it while walking to the trashcan, and then continued on my way. Probably why I was 1 second off the 10th place position in my AG...
