Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30647744

It starts in Birchrunville and goes North.

Weather for tomorrow is VERY unstable. I am hoping it will be dry. Stay tuned.

I rode them for several years BITD in the 1980's. Back then, the ride was far superior to clinchers at the time, but the hassle factor was HUGE.

Well, assuming

1. the electric cars and the BMW would have been built and disposes of anyway and
2. he can only drive them one at a time,

the combination is no worse than the the F150 alone. I'm a glass half-full kind of guy.

Lots. They felt good when they weren't rolling off your rims or being tossed into trees. Tubasti is why I can't remember peoples' names.

Muscle biopsy. Turned out to be negative, which is a good thing. But I am almost certainly going to miss the annual ride to Brooklyn Labor Day weekend. I'll probably be back riding by then but won't feel confident in my conditioning and ability to stand up and climb the steep hills.

You guys definitely need to do the Mt. Gretna ride from the Shady Maple Market. You'd love it. Maybe next spring.

We have ridden out to Mt Gretna a few times, on average once/year. It's quite a good ride and beautiful out there.

We are heading to Sussex County, Delaware for a few days' vacation starting on Sunday. No hills. Flat as a pancake. Sad, but still beats work.

You know, I could swear my daily ride is pancake flat, but Strava gives me 500 m elevation gain (not on your life!) and the profile looks like a bow saw blade. I can't figure it out. Is it Strava or my phone?

And now I must go buy hardware for the baby bicycle seat I'm building for the faux granddaughter. Pics when complete. I'm told she loves her high chair.

Welp, after putting a new motor mount on the minivan it sure got a lot quieter. Quiet enough to hear a wheel bearing going out. Gonna ride over to get a new one tomorrow morning, then install Sunday morning.

Two days ago, a 17 yo kid was riding on a narrow sidewalk with a curb, immediately adjacent to a traffic lane of a 35 mph, 6-lane arterial, about 1/2 mi. from here. Tried to dodge a bunch of trash cans or vegetation, fell into the street and was killed immediately. There is no such thing as safety.

Probably your phone. Strava displays the elevation info that it's fed. If you go to one of these rides with questionable elevation, you can have Strava correct it based upon your route and their elevation profile. Not sure if you can do it from the mobile app, but def can on the desktop.

Gawd, it’s been so many years since I went down for that festival ... I think BM was even still living. Epic event, awesome music.

I haven’t verified (since a politician, the Mayor, made the claim during the democratic debates) but I hear NYC has made it illegal to open a driver-side door and cause an accident. That’s a huge step in NYC.

I think that's long been the case, hasn't it? Years back, some girl got killed in Brooklyn because someone doored her in to a city bus and there was talk of it at the time. I thought that it was illegal in most places.

Wut. We don't go to no stinking festival. The ride is the Sunday before Labor Day. Ends at the Nu Hotel in downtown Brooklyn, where we shower. Charter busses take people home after dinner.
