I dunno - perhaps I am lucky. In the 4+ years I've been commuting, I can recall only 3-4 times that I have gotten soaked. I do have a bit of flexibility so if rain is threatening I can bail out to the short route. Also, Doppler radar is a real asset. I find that I can use it to adjust my time to avoid most of the rain

I live in the Gulf South (New Orleans) and commute daily. Back in the '80s my work hours were 8:00AM - 4:30PM. And my commute was a relatively tedious 8 miles that took roughly 1 hour each way. I got rained on so many freaking times over 8 years, especially in the afternoon, it is amazing to me that I continued bike commuting. Since then my hours have been 10:00AM - 6 or 7PM. And I shortened my commute to 4 miles (15-20 minutes). I almost never get rained on now.

Also, I have a job where I don't really have to be right on time. I also have keys to the place. This makes it easy (ideal for me really) to just wait and catch a gap in any bad weather. Or leave really early to beat a storm front. I even have the blessing of my boss to just take a rain day if the weather is ridiculous. In 10 years I have taken ONE rain day and at that time I was temporarily living 18 miles from work while my house was being resurrected after Hurricane Katrina drowned it. This is when I took the rain day off.
