Weather patterns
It's amazing how periodic and regular weather patterns can be sometimes. I was looking over my ride calendar yesterday, and I've missed riding every Monday and Thursday for the past 4 weeks due to storm systems rolling through our area. It's been like clockwork. I was hoping the pattern would break this week and I could bike commute 4-5 days, but the same old thing has happened again. Monday it rained pretty much all day, particularly hard during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Today it is clear in the morning, but a strong line of severe storms is supposed to pass through the area this afternoon with heavy rain, hail and high winds.
At least we haven't been in one of those patterns where it rains every weekend, which happens from time to time. We actually have had pretty nice weather on the weekends lately, for the most part, but Mondays and Thursdays you better watch out.

I was going to ask why you didn't just ride in the rain but when I read "severe storms" and "hail", I decided that you're making the right decision (or at least the same decision I'd make). We get hail maybe once or twice a summer so it's not something I really watch for.

My commute is pretty long 1-1:15 hours and I just don't enjoy riding in soaking rain for that long. It's usually an easy call to drive on Mondays because I typically ride a lot of miles over the weekend, with a 50-60+ miler on Saturday or Sunday, so my legs can use a break. We also get a lot of severe storms in NC with high winds, torrential rain, hail and sometimes tornadoes. It's not like riding in sprinkles or light rain.
