USPS Mail & packages have been flying cross country for me and faster than normal or at least typical arrival postal times. It's been useful getting parts and gear quickly for home time projects. I received the Mafac brake posted earlier in two days from another BikeForum member.

I have seen other forumites achieve that but with round tubes, mines oval shaped. I still would have just filled it anyway.
Today I smoothed the filler, cleaned the frame and primed twice. Once a grey coat straight from the tin then tinted the second coat with the white base coat I'm using to lighten the primer before base coat. This helps the paint glow a bit more in sunlight so sunglasses will be needed to look at it
Still waiting for a T110 aircap before spraying base coat. Took the seller a week just to get it in the post.
Metal soaked and cleaned in 100% Ranex rust converter, excess whipped off then just before primer whiped with thinners.
Yet to be sanded.

My wife bought a 1973/4 Raleigh Grand Prix Mixte new. Its been sitting around for a number of, not years, decades. The brakes are/were horrible with the chrome rims and the lousy pads. Even the KoolStops did not make much difference. The drop bars anly added to the uneasiness she experienced. Enough to not want to ride it with the DT shifters. Great combination, right!?
So I have some Record high flange hubs waiting for me to lace up to Sun rims. In the mean time, I replaced the bar with a straight bar from a Barracuda that was stolen from my daughter. That meant that a stem and thread to threadless was used. I had some levers left over from being replaced on the RockHopper as well as the twist shifters, converted from 7 to 8 sprockets. New cabling and I thought I was done.
I am having some issues with trying to index shift the Prestige RD so thought I would replace it with a Suntour VX from the bin. The problem is that it won't shift to the 28 tooth sprocket due to the shorter distance of the pivots. At least the cables and housings are done and the brakes work as well as can be expected on the chrome rims.
I have a Suntour Honor long cage with the space to easily remove the chain. Only problem is that it is dirty and the cage is bent.
What I did yesterday was clean the RD in the ultrasonic cleaner. Some Improvement.

Cleaning your drivetrain is wrenching.....
.....and it is the easiest way to help improve shifting. That’s what I spent time doing on the bikes most recently ridden.

This wheel has been rocking back and forth for about 5 minutes...reflectors are coming off! Back wheel does the same thing, ‘cept it pulls the crank around on the return trip!
All Suntour Blue...first time with this set up...
No drillium needed here!
Can’t back up enough to get whole bike...
Pretty red bicycle under all the filth...

Removing reflectors and tossing in the bin is the first thing I do on a bike. Hate is too mild a word to describe my regard for them.

Finished this rebuild today. Ready to shred again (whenever that may be). Went a different direction with some blue housings.

Perhaps specificity is appropriate.
I sacrificed a hand towel on each one with a bit of mineral spirits to wipe clean(er) the: rd jockey wheels, then chainrings, then chain, another quick wipe of wheels/rings. Finally, with the edges of the towel the freewheel gets a wipe between cogs. New lube. They were all fairly clean to begin with, except the Mondia which gets more trail on 30mm Schwalbe's.

Found a really dirty Suntour Honor in the bin to use as a replacement for a Prestige.
And took it apart to clean
I also have aproject ot lift my Jeep. The challenge was to insert the OEM bushings into the eye of the leaf spring. Finally used my all thread stock for installing headsets. bearing installation/removal tool and cut a couple of pieces of square tubing left over from my DIY RD hanger adjustment tool to "press" them in. Final adjustment was made with the sledge. This final step included making the nut flush with the end of the all thread to prevent thread damage by the impacts.
And took it apart to clean

I put together the bottom bracket for the Guerciotti last night. Short end of the spindle on the drive side (!) and I feel the tiniest bit of grit when spinning. Up today: disassemble (again), degrease (again) with more attention paid to those captured bearings, and re-assemble with the spindle facing the right direction. I've been trying to do one thing per day on this build.

I'd done a quick spray out and wipe down removing the old grease, re-greased and re-installed, but didn't soak them. Bad idea - it took three rinses in mineral spirits and some toothbrush action to get all the hidden grit out. Turns much smoother now and I haven't re-greased it yet. Next caged bearing BB I do I may convert to loose bearings.

I didn't notice which way the logo was facing when I installed it the fist time. Looks like legible is long on the drive side. The battery in my calipers (why did I ever get digital calipers?) is dead, and it's a little hard to judge here, but there is about .5 cm offset. This is the bottom bracket that came with the '84 Campagnolo Triomphe grouppo. Spindle is stamped "70-SS", cups are marked 36x24 F.
I'd done a quick spray out and wipe down removing the old grease, re-greased and re-installed, but didn't soak them. Bad idea - it took three rinses in mineral spirits and some toothbrush action to get all the hidden grit out. Turns much smoother now and I haven't re-greased it yet. A lot of projects going right now. I like it. Feels great to get back into it again. I sold about 20 bikes, parts and spares a year ago after moving. Slowly getting back in to it.

Slowly getting the '72 Fuji Newest in order with Sugino offset BB and Mighty Competition Cranks installed. Well, almost installed-- ran into the "15mm socket won't fit" to install the crank fixing bolts and the bike shops are only servicing essential employees and commuters, SO, I went ahead and found an awesome NOS Park CCW2 wrench that will do the trick! Also double wrapped the bars with some Fizik that I already don't love, but hey it will work I'm not buying more! Thinking I'll go back to cork after I wear it out. Just waiting on the decal set, the rest of the drivetrain, and wheelset now! I'm not a purist and this build will be a bit of a hodgepodge, but a good-looking and good-riding one

Good luck "wearing out" the fizik tape. Seems to last forever.
Years ago, I had to take some 80 grit paper to a thin-walled 15mm socket, and I still use it.
