Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I actually think the absolute pretentiousness of the shorts alone make it worth it. People will get a laugh out of it.

I love it. I'm in for a jersey and bibs.....Large on both. What are we looking at in price, by chance? I can only afford so much at this time (saving for my ultra bike).

Also...what is going to be on the back of the jersey? Is there going to be options for socks as well?

The total costs will be a bit higher than just the listed prices at champ-sys.com because of handling and postage costs.

Also a couple have asked for socks. Some accesories have sepperate minimum orders and in the case of socks its 50 pairs. I can't see this happening. With the main items you can order 1 offs on top of the jersey order however I believe that this may require an altered design to be submitted depending on which item is in question which is more work for Tappets.

Are we going to end up doing something like $10 extra per order? I think that's reasonable...it covers shipping to and from us order-ers, but will it be enough to cover all of blacksquid's expenses?

We also need to order at LEAST 10 of 1 identical item...so I'm assuming that means we will need to make sure we are ordering at least 10 short sleeve jerseys, which looks like it can happen. After that, you can order 1 of whatever you want (except certain things, as AnthonyG mentioned above). Socks, gloves, booties, etc. are all special in that they have separate minimums which we probably can't meet. But skin suits, shorts, bibs, vests, are all able to be ordered 1 at a time after the initial 10 SS jerseys.

Prolly the only place I'd wear it...but maybe the Hancock and some others too.

Put me down for jersey and bibs, both XL.

Frankly, I am quite suprised that so many have no sense of humor about this little venture. If anyone ever catches me taking life that seriously, please shoot me imediately.

I'm in for an XL jersey. When does this all become 'official'?

Awww hell, make that an XL jersey and XL bib-shorts. I'm assuming it'll be coming in somewhere just a little north of $100? Maybe $110?

Ok big guy. I got my guns loaded. Although I may have to commit suicide if I take it too seriously. Hey guys it's all in good fun. And believe me Ryan is not offended by any of it. He likes all the attention. Who wouldn't.

I've got no investment either for or against RyanF, but I think the kit is hilarious.

First of all, I think the CW with Ryan is that is a troll, but he is not poorly educated. It has been an act, and a funny one at that.

troll or not, it's funny, some people like it, some don't. it's an inside joke that on some off chance someone on a group ride might get, but who cares? wear what ya want. if ya don't like it, you don't have to. see how easy that is? ;-)

i will hopefully have some art for the kit by early next week. i avoid anything digital on the weekends, so please bear with me!

got bike riding to do...

Just got back from Ride to Work Day part deux and my legs feel like wet noodles. ~50 miles today Capitol Crescent <--> Macarthur Blvd <--> Falls Road <--> River Road <--> Piney Meetinghouse Road <--> Omega Drive. Headwind in the AM. Yuck!

Anyways, this weekend, as I recuperate from a tough training week, I'll compiling a list of everyone who has expressed an interest and what they want. I'll edit the original post so everyone can check to make sure I've gotten their request right.

Hideous, absolutely hideous...

yet oddly appealing.

How about switching "Dialing up 400 watts" with BikeForums.net, since the 400 watts theme was a reference to R600DuraAce, not Ryanf. Unless, of course, Joe Gardner has aspirations for political office and doesn't want to be associated with this in any way!

If Ryanf can be contacted via e-mail, perhaps we should check if he wants one in case the order is submitted before his ban is over. It would be ironic if the inspiration missed out on getting one because he was banned at the time!

I'm still smiling at the thought of about 10 people at Lancaster wearing this kit, while the other 3,000 or so people wonder WTF???

Wearing this kit will sure give the neighbors something to talk about...

However, I view it as nothing more than a quirky inside joke among the members of this message board. Granted it's a crime of fashion, but harmless. By comparison, I never saw anything from R600DuraAce to show that he liked the t-shirts made about him, so I'm a bit more uneasy about that. (R600DuraAce stopped posting here in January of this year.) Ryanf seems to be in on the joke and think it's funny; R600DuraAce just seems to be the butt of the joke.

I like the 400 watts thing myself. I'd rather have that up than "Bike forums" myself.....bigtime. I just don't dig putting bike forum on it.

Depending on how you look at it, the upside down masher fits with the whole spirit of the kit.

The 400 watts reference is a R600Dur-ace thing and like HigherGround I'm concerned that its more making fun of someone rather than the RyanF "drope the hamer" thing that he is in on.

The bikeforums.net logo doesn't have to be big but I would be happy to promote the community that we belong to.

I think RyanF will be back before this is finalised.

Regards, Anthony

Putting BF in the kit would help provide some explanation (and proof of its connection) as to why we are wearing such an ugly kit.
