Just had what LAJ might call a “bag of nopes” moment watching a video on how to replace the drum bearings on our clothes washer. Gonna be expensive.

A guy I know saves the rendered fat when he cooks bacon, and uses it like that. He's not what I would call a "healthy" individual.

Second ride on the Circuit. 23.5 miles. I'd raised the saddle about 1.2 cm, and tilted the nose decree more nose down, as well as turning the handlebars down just a little. This made the brake levers reachable from the drops. Even though the saddle was a little higher, I felt less....interference...with my nethers. I also ran into the limitations of late 80s road bike gearing - 42 x 24 as a low gear? Suffice to say that I will definitely not be using this bike as my Mountain Goat. The brakes? Well, they sure aren't disks! But they will eventually stop the bike.

I used the Strava app on my phone. I suppose I could connect my HR strap to the iPhone. I'm dead certain there's no Stages left crank power meter in Sante......
EDIT: I put cadence and speed sensors on the Cannondale, wore my MR strap, and stuffed the Garmin head unit in my jersey, which worked fine. But so far I can't bring myself to put sensors on the Circuit.

The Cannondale used to have a 52/42 and a 12-21 cassette. BUT its also had a 30 tooth granny ring.

The Circuit also has Biopace chainrings. Weird things, they are Makes setting the height of your front derailleur an adventure, I can tell you. I THINK I was feeling them a bit, riding on a slight incline in the small ring. Felt kinda surgey. Maybe. Apparently they're set up almost exactly wrong. That is, they're largest when you can only put the least power through the pedals, but apparently if you turn them 72 degree clockwise (move them to the next crank spider arm), they are almost in phase with modern oval rings, which are largest when you're at the highest power.
That's my next magical trick.

Ew. I tried saving rendered bacon fat, but found that I didn't use it for anything other than to cook some eggs to go along with the bacon, so I stopped saving it.

Standard racing gears in the early 80s in Illinois, the second flattest state in the USA, was 52/42 up front and at the most a 13/19 in the rear, often a top cog of 18 or 17. I had one freewheel with a 21 top and one with a 24 top and those were for road races in hillier states.

This fickle spring weather is starting to get me.
I can deal with having cool weather after enjoying the warmth, but getting washed out on my riding days really blows (speaking of blowing, the wind lately ). If I could squeeze in my short daily rides, before my wife starts work, it wouldn't be so bad, but that's probably more than two months away. Now that my son is physically going to school, and starting early in the morning, and with the recent DST shift, there's just no window for those daily miles. I might have to get creative to get the work in. Maybe load the girl in the Burley for a lunchtime ride. Or maybe talk the boy in to riding his bike to school in the mornings (once sunrise starts cooperating) and riding along with him. Or maybe just abandoning the kids in the afternoon and getting in a quick ride. I just need something... anything... Ugh. I feel a sled dog cooped up in a kennel.

Yesterday would have been a great day to ride if not for the rain.

Edit: I had to use a lot of my CBT toolbox to return to "normality."

So I turned in my keys today. I'd rather be back in the field. This tool room job sucks. I kept hoping it would get better but the opposite is the reality. They just keep adding and adding more and more. Nah, that's enough. Put me back on a truck.
At least this way I'm only responsible for me and whatever mistakes I make. Not everyone else's.
