Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You're right. It goes north of you. Janie Hayes was bitten two or three times by some pits when she was in Kentucky.

Guy asks on neighborhood listserv if anyone has a ladder to sell. I offer him one for free. He replies “Do u have a pic?”

What I said: You are welcome to come and look.

What I should have said: Price just went up $40.

Several years ago, a guy was looking for a rear wheel to use on a trainer. He didn’t ask for a trainer tire but I had a wheel with tire and cassette and I offered them to him for the price of shipping. Same thing: he wanted pics, wanted to know the condition of the tire, and did it have a cassette and if so, what was the size and condition. Dang, he was looking to buy a rear wheel and here I had one with tire and cassette for the price of shipping. I told him that the wheel probably wasn’t what he was looking for and I was sorry that I bothered him.

Maybe he wanted to see if it's the right height for his purpose?

I bought a truck with a camper shell and I didn't want the shell so I advertised it for free. OMG the people who called were grilling me and were suspicious and so many questions. "Why are you giving it away?" "What's wrong with it?" and my favorite "Does it have a lock on the door?" (it did) One woman went on about the lock, how many keys, do all the keys work, on and on. I swear some of them seemed like they were mad at me. I should have asked $50 or $100 for it, I left a "free" sign on it and someone took it while I was at work.

well that didn't go as planned. I was supposed to do a weekend hike. We got to the start and start walking. It's a little breezy but not too bad. we start climbing a ridge after lunch. The foretasted easing of the wind hasn't happened. the wind is getting stronger, strong enough to know one person over and cause a couple of others to struggle. We're at the half way point distance wise and have done 85% of the climbing. We take the safe option and drop down a gully out of the wind and walk back to the car. on the plus side it made the roast meal and beer at the pub afterward extra tasty. And I don't have to pack up a damp tent in the morning.

54° here, so shorts weather. But I'm still gonna wait 'til the heat of the day to ride. Then watch the Ducks vs Utes. Wish I was gonna be up in SLC watching it in person.

'Tale of Two Cities' in the books. I'm gonna do a change of authors now, and go back to Tolstoy. Anna Karenina. Looking forward to it.
