Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sure, more than 20 years ago. They had half a floor dedicated to Pink Floyd at the time, so I thought that was cool.

Iron Maiden gets my vote, even though Powerslave was their last really good album (also one of the best albums of all time).

I'm surprised Fela's on there, all his stuff I heard BITD was kinda funky jazz - good stuff, but not very rock.

Just found out that our merger retreat next week now has a remote option. Yay now I don’t have to risk infection at the worst or 2 week quarantine at the best in order to ensure I still have a job post integration!

I’d love to go to Nashville any other time.

I’d add Foo Fighters as well, they’re not really my style but they’re pretty talented.

Slow day. Everyone must be nursing their bursae. It was in the upper 60Fs today and I didn't even go on a walk. I could have, probably could have even rode the bike. But I decided to rest it and see if it will calm down. Also using a cane. Sad.

Or bursing their nursae.

Since I am taking the week off, The Boys and I headed to Costco where we spent an unconscionable amount on food. Lots of meat for stews of all varieties, like Beef and Barley stew, or Pozole, or Chicken Vindaloo. Trying to be healthy. Did NOT buy the big box of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, because I could eat all of them in a day, and just lie there bloated on the couch like a beached whale.

I went for a ride off-road but didn't feel like my normal 2500 feet of climbing so I did a little exploring. Took a new (horse)trail down after climbing a bit. It was very steep and loose and covered with rocks. I had to walk parts of it, although some guys could bomb it.

Then I came home and watched a bit of the nauseating thing on tv.

Do you have to dodge poo?

This reminds me--yesterday in the infusion center the TV was on HGTV, as ususal . (I was the only one in there for much of the two hours and thought about asking if I could switch it to CNBC, but was afraid I would get a "difficult" notation on my chart).

Anyway, broadcasting was the "Extreme Makeover" show with the bus and crowd and if I don't know if its possible to construct a cheesier show. Avoid.

Sometimes but not on the steep stuff. I think they like to stand someplace where they are comfortable when they drop a deuce. They absolutely destroy the trail when a lot of them walk on it, churning up the surface to a loose, sandy, rock filled nightmare for climbing. The other part of it is the level of the trail will drop lower on steep sections and can turn into 2 or 3 foot deep ruts which can catch a pedal if they are narrow.

Speaking of poo, there is now (since covid) more dog crap than ever where I ride. Some people even put in little bags, then leave the bags on the road/trail. And masks. I see masks everywhere I go, on or off road.

We have little colonies of motorhome dwellers and there are 8 or 9 of them parked on the road on my way back home. I always avoid any liquids near these vehicles. There is a larger group of them a few miles further up the road and I have seen city vehicles servicing them by pumping their waste tanks, picking up their trash, and delivering fresh water to them.

I hate when people leave their poop bags at the curb. The trash collectors don’t pick them up. Some people put them in others’ recycling buckets on trash day.

If you don’t pick your dogs poop up on someone else’s property, you should lose the right to own the dog.
