Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So, health care.

I sliced my left index finger open last night while washing (not using) a knife. Thought I needed stitches. Started driving while AG made appointments. The two closest urgent cares had no capacity left for the day. Called the next closest, got voicemail. Got there, the provider had called in sick and they couldn't do anything, gave me a list of their other sites. "Or you could go to the ER". AG found me an independent place close enough that saw me, said I didn't quite need stitches, and re-bandaged it and gave me a tetanus shot. Which had me fevered and miserable in the middle of the night.

WTF is wrong with this state? Took me seriously 90 minutes to get seen. What if it had been worse?

Tetanus is found in dirt. So you did not need the shot.

Yes, growing up in farm country I was told in no uncertain terms what wounds were important. It was also a shallow cut, not a puncture. They still wanted to give me one.

Which still only reinforces, dafuq is going on with heath care?

Well now that Mojo is not around, we can badmouth the state of Texas at will. Who wants to start, I'm a moderator, I can't set bad example.

I think I mentioned this before. My great grandfather died of tetanus when a horse kicked him and cut his cheek with a hoof edge. Obviously dirty.

i was really jonesing for a ride today, and i thought, hey, it's not raining right now. put a light on the bike (i don't normally ride in the dark) and went out for a one hour ride. halfway out it started pouring. feet soaked, no fenders, brakes wailing, worn 30mm GP 5000s, a bit of traffic, moderately steep descents, this was a very bad idea.

but, i made it home, kept the bike right side up. some cool visuals riding in very dark areas in driving rain with a bright headlight lighting up the disc/arc spray from my front tire.

I think I may have missed a nuance in wordle.

Today, I used a certain letter twice in one guess. In one box it was brown (in the word but wrong spot) but in the other box it was black (not in the word at all).

Either this was an error, but more likely telling me that the letter is only used once in the word (not twice).

Mrs datlas tells me it’s the second one, and I expect that’s true, but first time I ever saw this.

The farm down the road used to make scrapple. They had a butcher that was from Philadelphia. Sadly, that era has ended.
