It came as pictured below with no wheels, I borrowed a set from another bike for now and I'll build a set next year. It had a tall Nitto stem (most buried in the tube) with modern handlebar and Universal Mod 68 brakes. I replaced those with period-correct Titan stem, S.Maes/Kint bar and Vainqueur 999 calipers. I replaced the ragged-out Brooks with a Professional I had laying around.

No decals, I had to use aftermarket and reconstructed the period seat tube wrap by cutting and combining a 70's Paramount and mid-60's Continental waterslide, the latter with the older Arnold-Schwinn logo wrap. Not perfect, but close.

This one took an awful lot out of me. I'm completely spent and done with building for awhile. For years I've been looking for a Paramount, my grail bike. Now in less than a year I have two. My grail runneth over, I guess...
As restored:
Fantastic! My '62 came out of Arizona and another person here, Hudson308, has a '61 that came out of Arizona as well. It's either a huge coincidence or Arizona seems to have been a big market for Paramounts in the early 1960's.

Probably once they caught on in a place where you can ride year round, they were flying out the door I bet.

Year round riding? You mean people can do that some places?

@merziac's comment makes me wonder. I thought it was quite the coincidence that not only did my 1970 and this 1963 come from Arizona, but both from the Phoenix area. Thinking about it though, Phoenix has the largest concentration of population in AZ by a large margin so I guess it makes sense.

Should have qualified that with "fair weather riding" or something, we ride year round but not the good bikes for me.

This is the second Asian Paramount I've had, found it 3 yrs ago in as new condition. I love the fancy lugs and the ride is great but stiff.

Probably not a case where lots more Paramounts were sold per capita (in either Phoenix or Arizona as a whole). Instead I'd suggest our climate allowed for lots more rust-free survivors than many areas.

1941, the bike speed record passed the 100-mph milestone when Alfred Letourneur riding a Schwinn Paramount reached 108.92 mph while slipstreaming behind a racing car on Highway 99 near Bakersfield California.

Don't you wonder how much that chainring weighed? Had to be quite heavy since he's running at least 40 hole hubs/rims. Gotta carry that extra weight safely!

My Paramount is a touring model, 1964 IIRC. I rescued it as a frameset off CL. With it I got the Campy headset and bottom bracket hardware. From there I was a bit on my own; built up a set of wheels using vintage Weinmann with Campy hubs. The paint wasn't perfect but I was loathe to repaint as the graphics are in good condition.

I figured the stem and bars to be GB; I have a set of carved GB bars for the task, but being a bit of a GB fan I set it up with GB Courier 66 brakes which are a lot more powerful then the Weinmanns and they look nicer too. The other deviations from stock kit are the Lyotard pedals and the Campy first-gen Rally. I found a 41 tooth inner chainring for the front and a 14-34 freewheel for the rear, so the gears are pretty nice.

This is one of the more comfortable bikes I've owned, so when I had my custom 953 frame built (Dave Anderson) it essentially used the same geometry.

I had this bike on display at the Dairyland Dare in 2017 but wussed out on actually riding it for the race- my Anderson is set up with a Rohloff which is a bit more gears.

The shop still exist in Chicago. Interesting noting the above photograph to this display.

In '64 I believe they still used Titan stems and M.Kint bars. The GB's are pretty close though and a good (and easier to find) alternative; I used them on my '62 until I found a nice Titan stem and M.Kint bars for a reasonable price.

Thanks! I beat myself up a bit with it - but worth it... And I recently stumbled across one more thing to make it even better, a set of early gen Weinmann QR levers, OE on the '63/64 P-13 Deluxe from what I've seen in researching - fairly rare so I jumped on them. I'm enjoying the bike as is for now so I'll put those on later when my mojo (and my slush fund) recovers and I begin building the wheelset for it.

on the ebay sold listings is a rare Paramount It's a 66 ladys model with Seria legere lugs. Ebay seems to think you should be looking at things still for sale so you will have to click on original listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Schwin...orig_cvip=true

I agree but my wife doesn't

I guess the best in the stable
is an NOS Pro that's never been taped or had its tires glued.

Back in 1999 my wife found a pair of new in box Pros at a shop that specialized in 60s/70s bikes and parts. The owner was willing to sell one and later she convinced him to sell the second one too. I haven't shared much about them because most comments have been critical of my keeping them unfinished. Stuff like "Why own it if your don't ride it?" I have plenty of nice options. I get a lot of pleasure looking at them and putting a little wax on them once in a while. They are only new till they're not

Kerryp,
That is a great story, I personally say do what makes you happy, if displaying them is it, then great...I wouldn't ask museums to loan out the works for personal use and as you said it's only new then it's not....more pics would be welcome, start a new thread and post them there.
I am sure Raleigh aficionados, as well as others, would enjoy seeing them.
Best, Ben
