Okay, I visited the co-op last night and had the opportunity to look in one of their storage containers right after a big donation from a warehouse nearby. Saw these rod brakes and knew I had to post it here. This bike is really buried but I was able to see that the front wheel is not correct (700C QR) and front pads are missing but everything else looks okay. Men's 22" frame and a cheap mattress saddle instead of a Brooks. I can follow up if anyone is interested.

I wish. Carter's famous quote when Carnarvon asked what he saw through the first opening in the tomb was, "Wonderful things!" This place, not so much. Even with light there was only so much I could see and most was pretty mundane. I keep hoping I'll find something on my list and when I show up I always tell them I'm looking for treasures.

W.L.SOON - Maybe this will help you with your cam lever - when I first got my DL-1 I had to modify a new cam arm. I needed to rotate the square hole through 45 degrees to match the orientation of the missing original cam lever. I had a friend fill the hole with weld, then drilled it out and filed it square in the new orientation. The threaded part of the rod you can see in the last photo has also been welded on, as that part had broken off before I bought the bike.

^ I'd bet it uses 700C wheels, frequently known as "28 inch" elsewhere.

Any possibilty you know of/have taken photo of the back of the cam lever? Are the numbers 3612463 back there?

Hi W.L. I'm currently moving house, but will see what I can do, I may be able to get a photo of the rear linkage bell-crank this afternoon. I did use part hsb 408 on the front drum, but as you can see this is not the same cam arm used on the rear drum brake. It looks like HSB 220 is the part you need.

My rear hub brake has the correct arm. It is just the front one. So ok,let me get this straight:you mean that the HSB 408 is not the CORRECT fit for our front brakes? It will fit on but the angle will be incorrect,is that it? That is why you had to have it welded and redone the hole to get the correct angle?
As for the rear hub brake,I am lacking the rear lower bell-crank and the adjoining threaded rod to pull the rear brake lever. Were these parts never sold as spares/replacements,but only came with the bike back in those days?🤔

Its an 84 chromoloy schwinn traveler with a 54 alloy aw hub. Inverted mustache bars, because thats what i had, a shimano dynamo hub and old fenders I got at my local coop. The brooks is an old spare I had and the gear ratios are 24-34-42 up front. 21 in back. Top gear of 72 inches. I used the stock brakes, derailleurs and crank, but changed the chainrings. I ride other ridiculous bikes but this is going to fun.

Interesting thread guys, motivates me to lavish some attention on my 1966 Superbe, bought from the widow of the original owner; a lecturer at the University of Hull during Phillip Larkin's time. He rode it to the university everyday during summer months. Completely original with some paint loss but little or no rust. Green Brooks mattress saddle, green saddle bag and - rare - green Raleigh branded pump, four speed Sturmey Archer...I clicked my Sturmey Archer gear and pedalled'til I nearly burst...dynamo, huge Raleigh branded bell, period mileometer, tools, handbook and event the steering lock key. Headlamp reflector needs re-silvering and new tyres (amberwalls ?), tubes and brake blocks re needed - pedals are shot, but readily available.
