Oh my gosh! What a scruffy, beautiful little survivor. You can see the age in that coat and in the eyes. Not many felines live to that ripe old age. Wonderful cat. A he or a she?

By the way, though this is way off topic...hell, this whole thread is off topic, but, what do you guys like to feed your cats? No brand names, unless you like, but dry or wet? Or both? I'm studying a bit recently, and reading a book by a vet about the dangers of dry food to the cat's system, health, etc.

By the way, though this is way off topic...hell, this whole thread is off topic, but, what do you guys like to feed your cats? No brand names, unless you like, but dry or wet? Or both? I'm studying a bit recently, and reading a book by a vet about the dangers of dry food to the cat's system, health, etc.
Since she started eating more raw food her health has been better (aside from the thyroid issues), she gets no other human food as cats are obligate carnivores, the dry food is made by Orijen which is a local company (Canadian) that sells throughout North America as their quality of production and ingredients are first rate.
Cats are desert animals and in the wild their lifespan is a fraction of what domestic cats can see... our vet said that their kidneys were not designed to last as long as they do when they are kept as pets. It is amazing that we have had cats live to 19 and 20 and enjoy their old age without serious health problems.

She does have a habit of meowing at sun up, so half rooster half cat. That and leaving little prizes next to the box instead of in the box. Her kidneys are slowly going, but we're not likely to medicate her as she's already so old. Maybe just one more summer out of her, but if she's up for a few more years so are we...

Pictures didn't capture him well. He had a thick layer of fat and one of the thickest coats of fur that the vet had ever seen. I could dig my fingers in deep and close my fist. It was luscious.
He was really mischievous and earned his name every day. He followed the dogs and me on our walks. He sauntered into people's cars and homes. Some neighbors I didn't even know knew him. On our walks, he would part with us, sometimes far from home, and he'd beat us home by walking back diagonally across the home lots. He never got lost.
He got into fights and got injured many times. One was so bad, after surgery, he looked as if the vet had removed his tail and sewn it back on. He had a life-threatening urinary blockage. He had a cancer on his leg which required amputation of the leg. He kept on as a happy go lucky cat, limping on three legs. Then he got lung cancer.

Our superpowered cat, Thunderhead, or "Tunderkitty" as I call her.
She is 13 years old and recently underwent radioiodine therapy for a misbehaving thyroid and is doing really well... is starting to show some low level kidney problems typical of senior cats but expect she will be with us for many more years.
Keeping her on medications would have been more costly and more detrimental to her long health than the radiation therapy she received and that wasn't cheap either... considering she has been a great healthy cat she has not cost us a great deal over her bile filled existence.

Such beautiful kitties in this thread! 
Here are my two. The black cat is Cinica, a 2-yr-old I adopted from the local animal shelter last year several months after a beloved elderly cat passed away. The Siamese is Jake, who will be 16 in July. (Jake is also the kitty in my avatar). I adopted Jake from the shelter when he was a kitten. Currently, he's the oldest cat I've ever had. My kitties never seem to make it more than a few months past their 15th birthdays. So I'm figuratively holding my breath until Jake hits his 16th birthday.
I feed mine both dry and wet. Cinica prefers the dry and usually won't eat the wet. Jake prefers the wet. I avoid the grocery store cat foods and buy what I feel is the best quality food from a pet-related store, although I'm always researching to see if I can do better.

I'm currently taking care of five orphans. They're about a week old today.
And this is Tux--he's the hungriest.
Not much sleep to be had around here, but they'll grow up pretty quickly.

One cat from the local SPCA, she is about 12 years old - it seems I prefer longhairs - there were all sorts of friendly cats but I settled on her after the person showing me what they had mentioned almost as an afterthought the cat they had hiding up in the hat shelf in a closet. When she came out meowing and then taking a swipe at me I knew I had found what I was looking for as she ended up being very friendly.
