Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Merry Christmas, all you goyim and others. Even though I’m a cynical old atheist, I love this celebration of birth and hope, I dig the wonderful symbolism, and I wish everyone peace and joy on this special morning!

I agreed to cover call from 8-11AM so partner has protected time with family. Gonna try to head out for a ride later with a fellow MOT.

Historically, I have taken attending call over the holidays, but my Hindu boss volunteered this year.

Fake mile for his MOT today. The combination of 12 kts of breeze and near-freezing temps is too much for my insubstantial Semitic frame.

It's a quarter to 7:00. The kids have been up for more than an hour. Oy.

But they're having a ball.

Wow we are getting a ton of rain. Lots of flooding in the area. Luckily our house is built on a bit of a mound, so it’s almost impossible for it to flood.

Yup. Next comes a deep freeze this evening. I am hopeful that despite the deluge, the roads will dry during the day. If not, there will be lots of ice on the roads for the weekend which would equal fake miles.

It’s breezy enough here that the roads are already starting to dry.

Same here, we’re getting hammered with rain and my backyard is actually clear of snow. Luckily we’re on sand, so no flooding here.

Wife and I drove around yesterday to check out my routes and I’ve got the okay to ride outside green light. Just need the freeze not to be too hard tonight.

That was Wed for us - rain transitioning to snow with a sharp drop in temp. For us, it resulted in a lot of *very* icy roads. Yesterday morning, I jumped on to the freeway while running a couple errands. It was so bad that, even when rolling at 30mph, a light touch on the gas would spin the tires and make me slide with the crown of the road. I took the next exit and stuck to the side roads.

Merry Christmas all!

Sunny, 60 and no wind this afternoon. Just the four of us all day, so will be finding a way to get out and “try out” with my gift today.

The Greyhound woke me up at 7:10. He just wanted to move to his bed in the Living Room, but he wanted company. When I raised the blinds, the most amazing dawn greeted me - all pink and blue - Mrs. GeneJockey insisted it meant somewhere there was a fire, but no - just the sun peaking under the clouds as the moved in. And now it's started to rain. I will be getting some Christmas Fake Miles in a bit later.
