If you have a worn Sachs, consider that I recently doubled the life of a 6 speed Sachs by taking the middle worn cogs and filing the notches so I could flip them over. My 5s IRD Classica lock ring was coming loose no matter how I tightened it so I used a couple drops of blue loctite. It shifts too nicely but I'm getting used to it.

I thought I'd browse on E-Bay and see what popped up.
Here's an 8-speed, 12-30. I think there also an 8-speed 12-32. You might need to do a few adjustments to use the 8.
There are some 7-speed, 12-28 freewheels also for sale, but the sellers want an arm and a leg for them. I suppose not any more than buying a good Dura Ace cassette

I'd shy away from an 8-speed freewheel, unless you are a tiny person. Axles will bend or break. They invented freehubs for a reason.

I'm a niche market in that I'm more interested in loose cogs than complete freewheels. Often times I have purchased complete freewheels just for the cogs, but I never pay top dollar.

Great thing about C&V steel cogged FWs is that it takes a lot of miles to wear them down, so it is easy to find used ones that have cogs with still a lot of miles left in them. Can't say the same for modern FWs with sheet with the thin sheet metal stamped cogs on them.
Most of the time you also find C&V FWs with maybe just one or two cogs with any wear on them because there are a lot of riders that are too lazy to shift....

Another hoarder of freewheels here. I agree that 7-speed freewheels with an low in the 26t-28t range can be hard to find. Keep open the option of buying individual cogs and reconfiguring the gears. Sometimes 26t-28t cogs come up for sale. Loose Screws used to be a good source for indiv. cogs, but I think they went belly up. Boulder Bicycle sometimes is also a good source for nice vintage freewheels.

...I currently have a milk crate filled with them to overflowing. I thought I was the only one.
Pretty decent freewheels used to show up in the co-op parts stream, but good ones by reputable makers have become more rare over the years. The low end freewheels that show up in the bin now are an abomination.
