Riding to work this morning on my Basso I unfortunately caught the topside of a sagging fence with arm. Blinded by the early sun I was able to move my head out of the way and instead let my arm take the hit.
I'm alright just a torn jersey and sore arm.

Yesterday was a perfect fall day. I wandered around Seattle and ended up at Yesler swamp by UW. Noisy at the stadium but peaceful a mile away.

A cool, breezy day here in Maryland, so I choose the C&O Canal. Back to layers - tights, full gloves, vest, long sleeves and a light jacket.
Leaves starting to fall and hiding tree roots, so full attention is required. Spooky abandoned house behind me, I had never noticed it before.

The Bears were playing Green Bay today, so I rode 72 miles north.
Checked out a trail that starts 35 miles from my house. Pretty much the edge of civilization. Was hoping it would be paved, but mostly crushed limestone. Had to rely on my old motocross skills - 700x23 tires...
Came across a nice stand of pines. Probably the remnants of a tree farm.
There were some great views of rolling prairie. Looks like fall "color" might be brown this year.
Seasons are changing! It was a crisp 45 degrees when I left. Warmed up to about 60. There was a delicious slice of high pressure keeping things sunny and clear. Bike needs a bath.

Well it happens every year, but always manages to surprise. Went from late summer to fall in a span of 24 hours. Yesterday set out (on bikes) to watch UVA football with my kiddo. Warm and sunny, we even put on sunscreen. Started raining about kickoff and chilly by time we got back home, well before the game ended. Went from low 80’s to low/mid 60’s with blustery winds today. I dressed appropriately and had a real nice ride with lots of climbing. We’re still a couple of weeks away from good fall colors though I’d guess.
Top of the last hard climb of the day. Blue Ridge stretching away for miles to the north.

Very nice fall weather for the Rockies today about 60 and clear. Took a nice easy ride up to Alma and back on some of the back roads and bike trail. Took the Mesa GSX which is great for easy riding.
Some is really snow on the ground in places so it really fall.
Some Ice still on the water from the cold nights lately.
It makes me sad to see this fairly nice mid 80's Scott MTB just sitting out a couple feet from the side walk in Alma. Despite the look it is actually nearly complete original except for seat and post and would actually be fairly easy to restore.

Today’s fine autumn weather graced a 42-mile loop, mostly through Queens and many of the areas where I grew up and then lived later, after college.
Sunnyside Rail Yards
Bocce court in Forest Park
Fort Totten
As I approached Fort Totten, a rush of memories came to me. In 1980 a friend and I formed a club with a group of B- riders. We met here at Fort Totten along with the Kissena Cycle Club, which we were loosely associated with. One of our members was Old Bill, so named to distinguish him from our other, younger Bill. He was in his later 50s. I was only 24 or 25 but even then I thought: wow, if I can keep riding until I’m old like him, that will be cool. I realized today that I’m living the dream!
Throngs Neck Bridge between Queens and The Bronx
It wouldn’t be complete with a visit to my childhood friend.
I was 7 or 8 when the World’s Fair happened. we lived nearby I have memories of the area from before the structures were built, along with the construction of Shea Stadium.

Only downside for me is that the ride never ends at Doofers and the ride&climb home is for the sober.
Eddy said, “Don’t buy upgrades, Ride up grades.” So I geared it with 48/34 chainrings to get me up the last 2.5km of every ride. Does the top to bottom shot show the grade on this 1st bit of the hill???

@northbend may have one.
I did stop for lunch at the Black Raven Brewery in Redmond today during my bike ride
My wife was having a friend over today and wanted me out of the house, they needed some privacy.
No problem with that, baby. I’ll go prospecting for gold.
The big leaf Maples that line the trails around here are really showing their color.

Leaving the Snoqualmie Valley Trail near Duvall I crossed over Redmond Ridge on Surface streets until I reached the Toll Pipeline Trail, taking that to the Sammamish River Trail following that to Marymore Park.
Golden Autumn Day 8 by Matthew Pendergast, on Flickr
I crossed through the Park and took the East Lake Sammamish Trail to Issaquah where I picked up the Issaquah - Preston Trail, then the Preston Snoqualmie Trail..

Here, at about 70 miles into the ride is the most difficult climb of the day - up Lake Alice Hill to Snoqualmie Ridge.
I drop down into Upper Valley in Snoqualmie and pick up the Trail again near Centennial Fields.
The resident Elk herd were grazing in the fields attracting many folks to stop and take pictures.
Golden Autumn Day 10 by Matthew Pendergast, on Flickr
I cross over the S. Fork of the Snoqualmie River just outside of North Bend, almost home.

I rode a little over 80 miles today, most of it on Rail-Trails covered overhead in a canopy of golden maples.
Low to Mid 50 degree temps and no rain too! I struck it rich.

My mother took all us kids to NY that summer to go to the worlds fair, visit relatives over on Long Island and spend a few weeks up state in the Catskills and Lake George. That was a fun summer!
