I picked up the frameset off the 'Bay and had my powdercoat guy mask off the chrome before he blasted it. Mafrac calipers, TA Professional BB and cranks, headset, stem and bars came off the Ficelle my daughter outgrew. Seatpost is a Kalin cheapie, but the saddle is an Ideale #39. Shimano band-mount A-400 shifters, Light Action RD, Sun Tour Vx FD, and SunRace 13-30 7 cog freewheel finish off the drivetrain. The wheelset is Normandy hubs laced to Weinmann straight-wall rims that won't hold the Panaracer Paselas at 100 PSI (and don't ask how I discovered that, if you please!) Transfers from Cyclomondo.
Only had it out once so far, but a real nice rider. Can't wait to get it into the hills!

It was originally full Nuovo Record, but I'm sure it shifts a whole lot better now. The front brake has too much reach, but Mafacs were used on the Tour de France model with the same fork. They were delivered with the pads tilted up just like yours.

I wish I could find a powdercoater that I could trust to do as nice a job as yours did.

Bikes: The keepers: 1969 Magneet Sprint, 1971 Gitane Tour de France, 1973 Raleigh Twenty, 3 - 1986 Rossins.

Damn! Brings back memories - that's what I rode when I was in college. You're going to enjoy the ride, very, very much.

You really brought all the pieces together to create a marvelous machine there, top506. I love the Normany-Weinman combination (truly classic looking) as well as your choice of DRs (shifts great) -- And all the rest. Great job!

PS - Straight flange Weinmanns were only OK for what was considered high pressure "back in the day". I keep mine ~85 psi.

Yeah, I know they were Campy, but I had the French bits kicking around and like the index shifting. I set up my Viscount Aerospace Pro with most of the same comps.
Glad to hear about the front calipers, as I was a little concerned when I set them up.
My powdercoat guy is pretty good. He claims to be able to do a two-tone job. If I can find a decal/transfer set I'll give him my Miyata 512 or the Ironman and find out.

I've run Weinmann straight-wall rims with Conti Gatorskins at 100 PSI, and Aryra straight-walls with Paselas as well. Both in 27", though.
Most likely I'll re-lace the Normandy hubs with 14/15 stainless spokes and Sun M-13II rims.

I assume the Sun M-13II rims are hooked? - Good idea, if you continue to run those pressures, regardless of the brand of tire.

BTW - did I already say that this Gitane was a wonderful build? This is exactly the sort of build I really enjoy seeing in C&V.
