I agree with you 100%. What a mess of a bike, but I was really pointing out the serial number locations. My 84 is on the bottom bracket and #66 made in 84. Yet this bike is seems to be an 84 with numbering on the drop out and seems to be a 29. Makes me wonder of a racing geometry got a number on the drop out and the touring on the BB.

About a month ago I discovered this forlorn Paramount hanging by its rear rim under the eave of a shed. It was bought new by Jeff, late husband of a dear friend. Further inquiry revealed that Jeff was quite the cyclist and rode this bike from Seattle to San Francisco when it was new and he was young! She was going to run it to the dump! So it's now my bike and my responsibility to bring this bike back to its original condition, in honor of Jeff, as much as its current neglected state and my finances allow. What I know so far is that the serial number is H945, meaning 45th built in August 1969. It has Campagnolo Nuovo Record components and Weinmann brakes. The saddle is by Brooks. I have no reason to believe anything on it is not original other than the front spokes, which have rusted badly while the rear spokes are stainless. The rims appear identical but I have not unearthed a maker mark yet. Below is the steering head after some rust removal and polishing. I have been in touch with Richard Schwinn at Waterford and my aspiration is to have them refinish the frame as original while I enlist expertise as I can to restore the components, using the original pieces as much as possible. Trust me, much advice will be asked of this forum as the project proceeds. I have preserved a number of old bikes (see 1984 Peugeot P18T elsewhere), but I have never restored one before now. Wish it and me luck!

I thought I'd put my 'Odd' Paramount up here, It's a 1978 but the paint/decals are early 80's. Came with full Campy NR gear, all I've done is replace the seat and added a shorter stem (and the MTB pedals), will get a Cinelli stem when I find and can afford one. Was eventually going to repaint it in period colors, but the 80's paint job has grown on me (Went to HS in the 80's so it's my decade). Put about 400 miles on it so far, rides like a dream.

Alleytom, as you said, unusual, but seen on occasion. I'm guessing, and maybe Waterford can answer this, but there was a refinishing option or under warranty frame repair on Paramounts that were sent to the Waterford PDG in the 1980s, and basically the only option was to have it painted and decaled in the 1980s Paramount offerings. I've seen several 1970s Paramounts finished in the same manner as yours.
As you mention, paint and decals have no impact on a Paramount's ride quality!

So I am glad this thread has had some recent traction. This was posted on our favorite "are you looking for one of these thread". It got to my dismay very little traction and was dismissed as overpriced more or less. That ended up being fine with me as I eventually struck a deal and it is now on it's way to me.

eBay / CraigsList finds - "Are you looking for one of these!?" Part II
Odd, rare, largely original, seems so. Obviously I couldn't imagine letting this get away, 1958 P-12 Paramount with sliding stem, S/N 913 and comes with this.

Both Richard Schwinn and Bob Freeman have agreed this is pretty cool as well as Charlie Kuhn at Kopp's and I couldn't agree more. It is the same age as me + a few months. It should be here within the week. It also happens to be my size.
Sorry for the huge pic's, but I think they are good in this case.

Here is my 1970 P15-9...first year for the P15. It came with Prugnat lugs (tried to change from Nervex as they were easier to work with), Cinelli model one stem and Campy Con Denti track pedals. The new Campy Gran Turismo rear derailleur was a dud though. I replaced it with a Shimano Crane , as did Schwinn in 72.

Well, since this has been revived......
I went through all the posts and didn't see one of the PDG Series prototypes mentioned so I'll put mine in here.
Best we have figured out is that these were part of a prototype run from Panasonic as they worked to prove to Schwinn they could build a bike worthy of the Paramount name. I had some growing pains sorting out some component issues with mine but it's now a very nice and competent road racer. It fact it keeps showing itself as faster on the same routes than my 1987 Waterford Paramount.
And now the bike:

Notice, no series number:

Tange tubing, supposedly Prestige...

Then I might as well throw in the 1987 Paramount. Repainted by Waterford and then upgraded. This is serial number one for 1987.

Red Is Faster :-)
I just finished this 91 OS. Interesting Waterford build. OEM Carbon Fork! I bought from a fellow bike forum member. Lettering is silver not white. Red is lovely in the sunlight. I am pretty sure it is faster then my White 78 and black 84. LOL

It might be noted that the chain and seat stay ends are done similarly to the ones in the recent thread:

Wow wow wow wow!!! That is just so insanely cool. You just don't see a lot of road Paramounts from that time period. Can't wait to see more pictures when you get it. And it's brewster green.

I have no idea what it means but it sounds cool, and I really like that color. My first thought was surplus Brewster Buffalo paint. I think the British ones were green. That would go with the hat in the ring insignia. Who knows though.

Interesting that this thread would be revived today. I spent yesterday and today rebuilding my 1993 Paramount Series 50 mountain bike. I have owned it since new. I now require a riser stem and a riser bar because my back is not what it was 25 years ago, but I love that bike. My son added an xtracycle to it years ago and rode it across the country so it has a lot history in the family. I will try to get a picture of it but it is not the beauty that it once was. The candy apple red frame sold me before I had a chance to even get all the way in the door of the shop.

I can't find any of my old ones but I will take a couple and post them tomorrow. I have only been to Moab once and I took this Paramount. I tried to find some pics from then, but no luck.

1993 R50. The frame, fork, headset and crank are the only things that are original. This bike has mostly been stored for the last several years and has grime on it but I still love the red. Eventually I will get a silver riser bar and a different stem but I had these in the stash and I mostly wanted to see if I could make it comfortable.
