We had a crash yesterday, A car passed another car and narrowly avoided taking our group out head-on but it was so close that several people had to slam on the brakes and two went down. One gent had a lot of road rash and a really nasty contusion and a bump on his head which meant an ambulance ride to the hospital. After a CT and a cleanup, he was discharged. The other person broke 5 ribs, was unconscious for ~10 minutes and has road rash a bruised lung and pain in his lower abdomen. He spent the night in ICU but *may* be discharged today. BTW, he is a BF member who hangs out in C&V forums.. He was on a pristine Hetchins which is fine. The first rider was on an AETHOS which also survived intact.

9,000 city workers, including sanitation workers, have been on strike since Monday. LL Cool J was supposed to be tonight’s concert headliner. Yesterday he announced that he won’t cross the picket line.

Our Fourth of July group today. Note the “stars and bars” trim on the lady in the middle. She’s bad-ass.

Started riding last week with a slightly younger and faster group. Hung on just fine last Saturday. Today was a whole nuther day. Hit the wall about 25 in, and drug everyone down.
Supposed to ride with them tomorrow on a course that starts with about a 4 mile climb at a 4.5 to 5% grade. Have never done that climb. We'll see if i get invited back after that.
In other news, hope the guys that crashed recover quickly.

"Vista Crits" training race last night, short course with a steep hill, so it's my kinda course! Local cat1 (pro???) Yogi took off a few laps in and solo'd the whole thing. We nevert really ever get it together in the group but I had fun being on the attack or otherwise pulling on the front for most of it.
IDK what it is about these weeknight race level efforts, but man I am just smoked the next day. I'm usually a morning kind of guy. Maybe I'm not eating enough after evening sessions. Weight was low this morning and had a midnight cereal/almond butter hunger attack. Gym this morning (squats/deads after warmup). The rush of hormones has me feeling energized. I had better get a meal in me before this house of cards comes crashing down.
Happy Fourth everyone! I hope you get some time to relax and eat/drink with family and friends.

Rode the e-bike down to my favourite cafe without incident.
I did not buy this Bronco I passed on the way home.

It is in places. My normal trash day is Friday. People in my neighborhood have been great about not putting out stuff—so far. There is a drop off place not that far from my house, but who knows if it will be inundated.

I did the Mount Baldy ride today. Roads closed to cars until the top where the turn-around was. 4 gates on the route so we cross each one twice. I took off early because our group are all faster climbers than I am, but we saw each other at most of the gates. Hundreds of riders and a super fun day. About 46 miles for me and 5600 feet, mostly on the way up, but there is some 1400 feet on the way back down.
Lots of riders met just after the first gate.

This gate is on the way back, just leaving the village.

When I got to the lodge my friends were still eating so I got a breakfast burrito and ate 2/3 of it. They appreciate cyclists there and it's very crowded. Luckily, friends already had a table so I just plopped down.

There is a chain of 5 or 6 bike stores called Incycle. They have shop rides and help racers, etc. Lots of riders were wearing their shop kits. They drove up the long way and set up a sag area for their riders.
