Just returning to cycling, need some saddle recommendations

Well I been out of the saddle for a couple years, I just got around to rebuilding my vintage Trek 830.

I'm around 184 pounds (and dropping) my sit bones are pretty narrow (around 50mm) and my old saddle just isn't working. The saddle is a Vetta AT Transverse (146mm?), the problem I'm having is bad pain in my sit bones. I've played with height, and saddle position till I was blue in the face, it's just time to find a new saddle I think. I thought at first it was I'm just out of shape, but I've pushed on for several days, 20 or so miles total probably, and after 2 days off I'm still sore.

I mainly plan to ride paved. unpaved trails, nothing to extreme as the bike is full rigid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.

Any Specialized dealer should have the Body Geometry Fit System that actually measures your personal sit-bones width:

. . . and they have varying widths of BG saddles to accomodate you and your riding style:

That's the only quantifiable means I know to get close - - the rest is (literally) seat-of-the-pants evaluations. But maybe it will help. Personally I can't stand the Body Jihad line; but that is just me; YMMV.

Saddles are like shoes - always try before you buy.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

Thanks for that, I been looking, I believe there is a shop in Ormond that is a Specialized dealer.

As much as I would love a $140 dollar saddle I just don't have the money, but I need to do something if I want to ride. Today I've ended up with terrible groin pain, and pain in the sits area again, I know I'm out of shape and I need to just get back in the swing of things, I just don't want to damage anything

Saddles come in a variety of shapes, sizes and prices. As Dminor said, get fitted, choose something in your price range and try before you buy.

Well my ex always called me flat butt lol, I guess I'll go with medium or somewhere inbetween small/medium.

Butt angle? I'm guessing that would be the anlge of the saddle? I prefer the saddle to be dead neutral or a tad tilted down.

How you like it? I was looking at the cheap (well not so cheap in my case) race version for $39

I'm going to the next town sometime next week to see if I can find a new LBS, err not so local I guess, 30 some miles one way. They are a specialized dealer and do the fitting there as well, so I'll see if they can at least size me up to see what I need. I'll probably have to wait on the saddle now, as I need to get my bike running right, even though I paid good money to my LBS they can't get my running right

My particular butt especially prefers WTB saddles. I've always found them comfortable, whichever model I'm sitting on. Many of them can be had very cheaply on the 'bay.

I was just going to recommend that one.

I got a Rocket V Team Ti for Christmas a year ago and love it 100%. Nice'n'squishy, yet light and small enough to get over/behind.

Well I finally decided to go with the Fizik Nisene CP3 with Ti rails for now, picked it up eBay for about 14 bucks shipped. I'll leave my impression when it arrives and I put a few miles on it.

Many thanks again to everyone for there suggestions
