I got some old bikes from the original owner, a Peugeot Course a Panasonic Villager III, and an old Trek that his son had debadged, all the bikes are the same as they were new but with rust and grime, even original tires, the only bike that was ridden enough to have any wear on the tires is the trek, I was suprised when I got home that they all had the tires pumped up,

the peugeot is 28lbs with a 59.5cm c-c seat tube and a 60cm c-c TT and 103 tubing and like my motobecane that is very close in size has a long wheelbase of 107cm, it has narrow alloy 27" rims, haven't gotten a chance to ride it yet, but look forward to setting it up and putting on some miles.

the panasonic weighs 35lbs measures 56x56 and since the owner was about my size/a bit taller is set up fine, it has a longish WB of 103cm thanks to a long chainstay, it's got the trick shimano FFS front freewheel system so you can shift w/o pedaling, I rode it a couple miles and it rides pretty well and is comfortable, the wheels are steel and so is the groupset combined with a Hi-Ten frame makes for a heavy bike but hopefully it will prove to be durable as it is now my new beater bike.

the trek as I said is debadged and the kid painted his name with house paint on the TT, the SN0888** means it's an 87 acording to vintage trek and it's a midrange model because of the 501 tubing, the seat post measures 51.5cm c-c and 53cm c-top I don't know how they sized their bikes, the TT is 52cm and the chainstay length is 43cm from the BB center to the rear axle with a 100cm wb if that is any indicator of what model it may be, it's got suntour parts and is pretty good shape, too bad it is too small,

Trek weighs 25lbs give or take on bath scale, I'm guessing it's the 500 since no triple, the size must be 21"

The vintage trek website was a wealth of info for me when I'd found my 460 ('85) at a garage sale in excellent condition. The documentation on these bikes is quite extensive. You should be able to ID that thing right down to the spokes

I would say with that s/n it's probably a '83 instead of '87. That year the S/N started at 04**** and ended at 113*** My '86 Trek 520 has a S/N starting at 22****. Nice find.

The Course is a UO10, an upgraded version of the venerable UO8.

it's an 1983 520, 21inch frame Reynolds 501 tubing.
colour is correct too, even if it has no decals.

thanks for the info on the bikes, I've been trying to find the info on the peugeot but didn't find much, also you can subtract the weight of the bike lock from that one

havent' been able to find out much about the villager III except for a cache of one on craigslist for $150!!! as villager 3 racing bike, the front freewheel is pretty wacky it would be cool if it wasn't so loud and I can feel the ratcheting through the pedals, but it's got a nice feel with all that road hugging weight,

I don't know why I typed 87 for the trek, the correct year was the only thing I found first time I searched, good to know everyones paying attention.

where was the "model size serial range date" info?

I looked at the 83 catalog and found the info for the equipment lists, my bike has a mixture of the 500 and 520, but no triple, and the geometry only listed the 22.5" and both models had the same dimensions, although it doesn't matter much since I don't know what I'll be doing with it, the old treck decals were either really crappy or the kid knew what he was doing and had a heat gun since you can't tell that there was one. the bike is pretty clean except for grime and oxidation also the brake hoods look like they are melting? must be the rubber.

The serial number lists at vintage-trek.com. I'm intimately familiar with them since my wife and I built the list from the original factory records, for Skip.

The UO10 is an upgraded version of the UO8. Introduced in the mid/late seventies, the bike had alloy rims (upgraded from steel) and cotterless Stronglight cranks, usually badged Peugeot (and take a standard 22mm crank remover). A downside is the obnoxiously small seatpost-- the ones I have seen measure 24.4, making replacement not very easy. I've found the ride to be not as nice as earlier UO8s. As an upside, the simplex derailleurs on this model were not made of derlin plastic, and thus not prone to breakage.

There were at least two other models Peugeot labeled as "Course". One of them, the PFN10E, was one of the nicer entry level racers made at the time, with Vitus double butted tubing.
