BOSTON -- A bicyclist was killed in Boston Wednesday after being run over by a dump truck, police said.
The bicyclist, a 22-year-old man from Halifax, was riding between two lanes of traffic on Huntington Avenue when he was clipped by a taxicab near Northeastern University at about 2:30 p.m., police said. After being clipped by the cab, the bicyclist was run over by a McCauley and Sons Co. dump truck, police said.
"It looked like the cab clipped the bike's back wheel and the bike got knocked under the truck's back wheels. After that, the truck kept going, the cab pulled over and I saw the bike rider just face down," said witness J.D. Ferry.
Police said the dump truck driver and the cab driver are cooperating with the investigation. So far, no charges have been filed. The victim's name was not released pending notification of his family. He was a 2006 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art.

this is a sad, ****ed up world. i'm sick and ****ing tired of hearing about everyone getting hit, people getting killed...girls killing people while texting and getting slapped on the wrist. i'm tired. sick and tired. sad, sick, and tired. this is place is ****ed. if this is the sort of people the world is filled with, we're ****ed.
i don't know if i can take much more of this sort of ****. but i don't know what to do.
people need to stop hitting us. this kid was ****ing younger than me but close enough i can put myself in his place. his life is over. i'm not ready to go. i can't imagine he'd have been. i know splitting lanes isn't the best idea, but ****, you'd think the people in gas-guzzline 3000 pound deathmobiles would give you half a second's thought. but no. cars aren't treated like a responsibility here. you never even hear discussions of car safety that include discussion of those outside the car.
our vulnerability is all our insensitivity, to take an old punk lyric. this is a problem for the cycling communit and for the family and friends of those who've fallen and my heart ****ing goes out to them. if we live in a world this callous...
i lose more faith in people every day. this is sad, sick and wrong. we're hurting no one. why can't people stop hurting us?
i want to break something.
like our hearts are breaking for his broken hearted family.

don't be so quick to string the driver(s) up.
the photo/video of the scene shows that it was raining heavily. the cyclist was lane splitting,he got tagged by a cab and went down, and just to his misfortune there was a large dump truck behind him.
i'm not blaming the victim here, but i don't think this is a case of zomg crazy drivers !!!111 killing a cyclist. a slip up, at the wrong place, wrong time with disastrous consequences..
tis still a very sad story, but **** happens

such a waste of life, and all because someone wasn't paying attention or didn't think of the consequences. i would hope that anyone who causes something like this would have their license revoked. in some countries this would be treated as a homicide regardless.

Saying "but **** happen" is pretty insensitive and IMO kinda a dick thing to do even if the cyclist was wear a shirt that said hit me and rode directly into the cab...

a slip up, wrong place, wrong time, sure....but a little caution and responsibility would go a long way in preventing the disastrous consequences.

it's a dangerous life out there on the roads. even if you don't take a lot of risks, not a lot of people care about you, and some people downright don't like you, and those people are all in machines that can kill you easily.
it's like a battle. we have sticks, they have tanks.
this is a tragic, sad, hard battle that we're fighting, but we can win. every day we get through is another victory.
life is beautiful. if i can take anything from a sad story like this, it's just to be thankful for every moment you live...it's a beautiful thing it's too easy to take for granted.

I never, ever split lanes around moving trucks/buses/big wheeled things. Those tires are half as tall as I am...
Not blaming the victim; he was apparently struck by the cab, but it's definitely a dangerous place to be.

before anyone knew much about who it was, i got a phone call from a friend who lives in the area, wanted to make sure it wasn't me, so i can understand the sentiment, wanting to know who it was... i don't believe it was anyone i personally knew, but if anyone on here knew them, my deepest condolences to you, their families, everyone involved.

seriously, i work/go to school at northeastern and also work on stuart st, so i ride through that intersection (and down huntington ave for that matter) every single day. splitting lanes is the norm there too because there really isn't any room to move when its crowded, but you have to be careful. getting a call from your girlfriend to make sure you weren't the kid who was killed is an extremely weird sensation.

I rode though, must have been minutes after the accident happened. I stopped to see why the police had tapped off my everyday route from class to my apartment, and then i saw the mangled bike and a messenger bag at least 25' from the bike. I was almost got sick. The worst part is that several of my friends called me to make sure i was ok.
Condolences to his family and friends. This campus has had so much tragedy in just one week.

Depressing as hell. I'm 20 and go to Cleveland Institute of Art. That could have just easily been me.
Or any one of you.
