Kilo TT RAW - For those that ask & for opinions

I really like getting ideas from the forum members, and lots have ask about getting a KILO TT in 'raw' unpainted version. {of course, clear coated to avoid rust}

Enough people posted and ask about this that I had one made and UPSed from factory so I could see what it would be like. Here it is:

After seeing it; I think that it might be good; and even might be good to have versions with different rim colors [like RED, BLUE, BLACK, YELLOW, PURPLE] -- where buyers could order a 'RAW - RED' and they would get this bike with Red Rims {or maybe Red Rims & Black Hubs}

Or maybe there is a better Idea I have not thought of; or maybe buyers will not like this RAW look {it does show exactly how a steel bike looks before paint - except it is a bit shinnyer due to clear coat}

Of course, I want to keep price at $349; not up-spec it and cut out buyers who like the Kilo TT price point

I appreciate any post or PM on this

Thanks

Mike

Looks pretty good. If you want to send me a frame I'll build it up for you and ride it around the city screaming, this is a Kilo frame. You'd be able to use any and all pictures associated.

Just saying.

Yes
there were several posts on 'unpainted' and a got several PMs

But YES - we will certainly be doing Fades and Pearls
Plus a lot of look alternative colors

I like options in colors - it is fun and we all need fun

Bikes: 2008 Mercier Kilo TT

I think there's plenty of interest in the unlabeled quality of this one, with no decals under the clearcoat -- though personally I don't love the gray/silver a whole lot.

meh, i don't like it either. i like my white one a lot better.

the only bike i've ever liked "raw" was one that he left out to oxidize for a little while, then had clear coated so it had an interesting patina to it.

I love the industrial look of it. Something like that might be better at avoiding theft in some locales. Still love to see a copper or nickel plated bike, too.

I like it. And agree that it could possibly help reduce theft, especially compared to my bright green which basically yells "steal me".

I like the RAW look, but you better not raise the price, I couldnt imagine anyone would want to pay more for a bike *without* paint, even tho its clearcoated I think that is how people would perceive it.

I also don't know about the colorful rims, it would be my guess that people buying this bike would prefer more of an understated look.

Yes. +1 on raw clearcoat.

I've seen quite a few done this way in my hood. Red anodized NMSW rims look good with a raw frame

I hate increasing prices! I am not in favor of high prices
and in fact I spend at least one hour each day trying to find cost savings without cutting quality

I think you are right
colorful rims might not go with 'raw' look as well as silver

One thing I love about SS/FG forum on BF is the input that comes out and so quickly

It is great to hear all these opinions

Love to hear what Fades people would like
Frt to back? Top to Bottom?
Black to Red, Silver to Purple, White to Orange? Etc?

Posts Rock -- Thanks!

Bikes: 2008 Mercier Kilo TT

this 3rensho always comes to mind when it comes to fades:

but the thing is crazy... seems like maybe it can only be pulled off in the vintage keirin world.

also this looks more gray to me as opposed to raw. if you are going with a true raw finish it should look more like the FBM Sword

I like a more subtle fade. Maybe light blue to a slightly darker light blue (ala some 3Rensho frames i have seen). I also like front to back fade, rather than a left to right lateral one (as pictured above).

I think front to back fades are cooler.
Also try low contrasting color combos like red to purple, orange to red, Blue to purple.

Top down fades look cool.

More complex fades.

So how much more you think these special painted Kilos gonna cost??

Doesn't look as nice as some of the other unpainted bikes I've seen, like the sword of the MASI limited. It just looks like grey paint
