one thing thats nice about the ebay postings is that we dont have to go to ebay and search "track" or anything else. Someone else is doing it for us, it is pron, and damn i know exactly where to post my bike, FREE ADVERTISEMENT!!!!

How about this? Maintain one thread into which anyone feeling the urge to post an eBay auction relating to fixies and such can do so without cluttering up the board.

I think what we are going to start doing is moving all posts from ebay, craigslist, etc. to the Buy-Sell-Trade, where all things for sale belong. That should unclog the forums of these bikes for sale. There you go, a solution for the problem.

why not go with dave's idea, and have a specific thread (in this subforum) for placing these auctions. they're all related to ss/fixed/track equipment and accoutrements, so i would rather have them stay here.
makes sense to me.

Koffee, I don't like that idea. All of the ebay auctions are track/ss/fixie related. Well, most are. They get the most attention here; relevant subject matter(mostly); on a (mostly)relevant board.
Moving them to the buy sell trade forum would reduce the umber of views by people who want to see them.

Regardless, all bikes, bike accessories, etc. are supposed to go in the Buy-Sell-Trade forum. I don't see the point of clogging up the forums with everyone putting every bike they see or every product they see in their forum, and then claim it's better to put it in one forum over the Buy-Sell-Trade. It's circumventing the very reason why the Buy-Sell-Trade forum was created.
We aren't ebay, so why is it that we should have the ebay stuff listed in the forums in the first place? And if they are put in the forums, and people do end up bidding on them, then the people who placed their goods on ebay are benefitting from our forums. As such, they should be moved into the Buy-Sell-Trade, as specified by Joe:
There have been some threads here with bikes, bike products, etc. that we cannot ascertain if the products are for sale by someone in the forums or someone who is not registered with our forums. That makes it a lot more difficult for us to moderate the forums.
Sub-forums for products for sale don't seem to make sense if we already have a forum within the Buy-Sell-Trade. If a product is fixie/ss/track related, you should simply put the that in the title so that everyone can see the item for sale is fixie/ss. That way, you won't have to search around or wonder if the item in the Buy-Sell-Trade is ss/fixie related or not.
Finally, the fact of the matter is, if we do it for one forum, we have to do it for all forums. Then the Buy-Sell-Trade forum becomes useless, since everyone just posts their links in their respected forums, and the forums become bogged down with products for sale. Then we're back to the same problems we originally had, when people were posting their articles for sale directly on the forums, and before Joe knows it, he has more cease and desist letters from other attorneys.
I'll talk to Joe, but I think because of the large amount of posts we have for ss/fixies for sale from third party sites that are showing up on this forum in the past few months, we need to enforce the guidelines Joe originally set forth for ANY articles for sale that come through third party sites.

All threads in this Buy - Sale - Trade forum must include a link to a 3rd party website were your bicycle or item for sale is listed.
If you list an item for sale directly, without the use of a 3rd party website, your listing will be deleted without question.
For a listing of websites were you can sale your item in a user to user format, please visit this thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/trash/44517-new-forum-buy-sale-trade.html

...so post the (eBay, classifieds, etc.) links in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and then post a link to that newly created thread in the FG/SS forum....? how would that be?

I like the posts. I think in general, when people post the ebay/craig's list links, they post them so that people can enjoy the bicycle eye candy. I don't think people are really trying to get other board members to bid/buy the linked item. This distinction is key when determining whether or not to move the post to the buy/sell section.

And hence the problem with moderating. We have to figure it out, and then people get upset, then they whine, then they start saying all kinds of snide remarks about the moderating, and you know, it become soooooooo much easier to nip it in the bud when we get that type of behavior by ending all this stuff now.
