I think if people posted the PICTURE from the ebay auction and talked about that, as Ceya suggested, it would solve the problem. Then the item for sale stays out of the forums, and that leaves the picture for discussion. But I still think items for sale ought to go in the place where items are for sale- in Buy-Sell-Trade.

Good f'n god. You mods are like the government. A small group of people are enjoying themselves and not hurting anyone, then boom, the party's busted up. Leave us alone!

Kidding!!! Kidding!!! Kidding!!!

I agree that the ebay posts are far from clogging up the board. I doubt it averages to more than two per day. Like I said, I like them.

Oh yeah, if people just start linking to pictures you might have people complaining about stealing bandwidth and what not. It seems like a touchy issue for some.

Two more is two more than the other forums are posting, as all members in other forums follow the guidelines and post in the Buy-Sell-Trade. I don't think there is a problem at all with bandwidth, so if people want to post a picture they find in ebay, I think if there was a problem, and Joe needed the bandwidth, he'd say so. But even so, the problem is still there, regardless of whether it's 2 a day, 20 a day, or 200 a day. We have a forum for items for sale. If there are third party links to items for sale, there is a forum specifically created for it. But if people want to post a picture, it's an entirely different story, and could be placed in this forum.

Clogging may not be the correct word to describe the phenomenon. I like words like "sneaky", "circumvent", "beady-eyed", and "critical-masslike".

Mods are people too. We can kid. Sometimes.

when someone posts an ebay finding they are not trying to sell it....it is a heads up to the rest of us obsessive cumpulsive drooling maniacs who cant get enough of seeing stuff that we desperatly want but in a million years wont buy.

the difference between us and the other forums is that we're always on the lookout for used stuff...and the heads up here is of great use.

buy/sell should be for a user selling his own stuff...not just somebody saying..."wow look at this"

i think a sticky thread would be awesome for this....just below the pictures thread. that way we can see whe somehting new comes around...and we dont clutter up the board.

Then as I say, if it's just a "wow" factor, why not just post a picture? I've definitely seen some threads where people have bid on some of the links that come from ebay, which is why I raise the questions I'm referring to. If it's a wow factor, no one should be protesting if we ask for pictures only in the fixie/ss forum, and third party links in the Buy-Sell-Trade. A sticky wouldn't solve this at all... just put it all in one thread, which is the same as putting them in different threads. I see no difference with a sticky.

I agree with OTS - no more frikken ebay links masquerading as threads!!!!!!!!

Now, I know ebay is like a hobby for some of you dumpster divers, but please. I'm bored. I don't care if a Namaguchi is for sale on ebay, and if I did, I'd go to ebay and look at it.

I like the idea of having a sticky for it, seeing ebay trawling seems like a permanent part of urban fixiedom. Sticky = Permanent Fixture = Appropriate Grouping, IMHO.

Koffee, as the people linking to ebay more often than not aren't the sellers, these threads don't belong in the Buy/Sell/Trade/Whatever forum.

Vote one for Sticky.

Just post the pictures. Any links to the full add in this forum or in any other forum except buy-sell-trade will be deleted no questions asked. Don't like it tough, the rules are the rules. Live with it. Things are going to change around here, start posting the off topic stuff in their appropriate forums, for the off topic stuff this is not the forum. Any off topic post will be moved, this forum is not your own personal private forum, and you all will not close it off as your own. We've let you get away with alot of stuff, no more. Keep threads on topic or they will be moved or deleted.

Honestly people, how hard it is to check the buy and sell forum for 2 seconds daily. Just make an agreement amongst yourselves to put EBAY SS - title in the title and then you wouldn't even have to work hard to find the postings. Thats only a couple of minutes out of your browsing day, saves us having ebay postings throughout the forums (it may be only 2 here but if we allow it here it goes on to 2 in every forum...) and lets you still check out your newest and hottest deals.

Same here. And I'm of the line of thought.. don't like don't click.

But I see we've invited new moderatorship now, which can spawn other threads about bieng moderated. Now people remember, when you post a link to ebay and it gets moved: it's what you asked for.

Other mods (not Koffee) - being a little mean aren't we? (kidding - but then that's all in fun in this part of the forums).

I thought a sticky would have been a good solution - truth be told, I never go to Buy Sell Trade (maybe to my detriment, maybe not) or much of the other parts of the forums save for this one. I suppose some of us have made this the only part f the forums we go to - a tight little sub community has developed...?

However, I respect the rules - I moderate some other online sites so I certainly understand.

Cheers.

Bikes: Fixie

Are there any other forums (i.e., not bikeforums.net) where the ss/fg info and camaraderie are as good as it is here? I feel like there is little to no room for democracy here. I was going to get myself a red star next to my name with my next paycheck, but I now I'm going to hold off.

I call for a mass exodus to a place that is a little more free and open. If we can't find one, let's make a new one.

A sticky would resolve this. Instead of a handful of threads that each feature one or two sales, this would limit to exactly one line on the screen. It's a pretty reasonable return on attention invested.

Me, I like the eBay links. I'm not looking to buy anything but I like to look. I also like to read the descriptions. So you're proposing that we should post the photos (of which there are often half a dozen) as well as the text of the ad? Why not just let people link to eBay?

It's like the Fixed Gear Gallery only someone happens to be selling that particular bicycle. I really don't care, I just want to covet my neighbor's goodies.
