Anyone used a "new" Dura Ace FC-7800 crank on a fixed gear or SS?

i've known several people to use the new two piece xtr cranks on single speed mountain bikes. i'm also probably going to buy a koxx trials frame from a friend with the xtr's on it.

how small a chainring can you put on that crank?

there's a 22 on the cranks my friend is going to sell me.

If you meant the Dura Ace, it's still 130 BCD, so 39 is typically the smallest. Although, I *have* heard of 38 tooth 130 BCD chainrings, but that's splitting hairs.

i have a 38T on my FSA gossamer road crank. it's a 130BCD. i like it.

as far as i've seen, no. i wouldn't be surprised if it showed up on the track in a couple years though...of course i think the NJS folks would have a thing or two to say about such a design for kierin racing.

From what I've seen the redesign would benefit a track racer. I assume it would be stiffer thus a better transfer of power. I do think it is quite ugly but I like the integrated BB design.

i totally agree, but the NJS has very strict standards for their races, and i'm not sure they'd allow the new DA crank design to be used unless everyone else was also using it...then again...who knows? also, even though my paranoia is completely unjustified, i still have a problem with "bonded" materials in important parts of my drivetrain.

i'd like to see a track version of the truvativ rolleur gigapipe cranks though...talk about a sexy crank.

The 7800 crankset & BB work well on my Globe Live 3. It definitely looks better with the 7900 Dura Ace clipless pedals, but it works great and I didn't even need any spacers or jiggery-pokery to line up the belt or eccentric bottom bracket.
Planning on doing the same thing to my Globe Live 2 with chain drive, though I hope the chainline works on the inside chainring. Going to machine the teeth off a 7800 53T chainring and use it as a guard to keep my work pants from getting chain-lubey.

I don't mind contributing to a zombie thread.

I am using a 7800 crankset on my SSCX (39x16). It's light, stiff, and the chainline is perfect. Can't ask for anything more.

I've seen several people use them on BEER eccentric BB's for SS CX. Feel a little odd to comment on a thread that I commented on 10 years ago.

Edit: I still think they are ugly but not as ugly as the current shimano crank offerings.
