Is the Dosnoventa Tokyo a top frame or what else would be up there and how would you rate it against a Pelizzoli Leggenda FOR3?

Who are you trying to please, us or yourself? Buy the stuff that you like.

Of course to please myself as i don't see how me buying a bike would please anyone else , but don't know much about the options/ brands on the market. So if anyone has suggestions on what i may want to look at it would be helpful... cheers

Why do you need to be told what to buy? Spend some time doing actual research and buy whatever frame you want.

If you had to ask then you're not ready. It is less satisfying to buy and build because someone else told you so than if you went ahead because you know what you want.

Because bikes are so simple this, to me, sets apart accessorizing and customizing.

I am pretty happy with my Langster.

I bought a frame from Pelizzoli in 2011, had a great experience dealing with them, only had to wait 3 months to receive the beautiful frame from Italy, and all for an amazingly good price.....but today I learned that the company is struggling. Big time. Sounds like customer service has dropped off dramatically, people are being given the runaround, the company is not responsive and the frames that people are receiving have all sorts of problems. It truly saddens me to say this, considering how much I love my Pelizzoli, but right now I can't recommend Pelizzoli to anyone. Here's a link with more details:

Really you should do some research on your own. However these would be my picks for a high quality fixed gear bicycle build.

Crappy Aluminum frames with ridiculously huge and ugly logos are garbage. Get a nice handbuilt and lugged or fillet brazed steel (or stainless steel) frame, my choice would probably be Bishop or Circle A Cycles. I would probably go with Reynolds 853 or if stainless 953 tubing

You want nice drive train components go with Super Sugino 75 cranks with Super Zen Chainrings and EAI Gold Medal Cogs or Sugino Gigas cogs. Or if you want USA made go with Phil Wood cranks and probably still the EAI cogs (I haven't heard great things about Phil cogs). Chainwise the Izumi Super Toughness or D.I.D. Track Racing Pro is a good choice. If I was going with a freewheel on the otherside which I would do even though I don't use mine currently it would be a White Industries.

For hubs I would go with Phil Wood all the way if I had the money I would probably just leave the wheels up to Phil and let them build me a set with their spokes and probably Velocity rims (keepin' it 'merica). If not Phil probably Paul because also high quality made in 'merica

Headset would probably be Chris King or Cane Creek 110 series which are both high quality and made in 'merica.

The cockpit would probably be Thomson stem and seatpost (the components they still make in the U.S.) and probably the Zipp Vuka Alumina bars or something very similar that is made in the U.S. and I would probably go with a Brooks Cambium saddle.

Remember though this is not the equivalent of doing your own research. This is basically what I would put on my top end fixed gear and could be different for you. Maybe you are looking for something cheaper or maybe you aren't yet sure of what you want. This build is culled from my own personal research and usage of parts.

Since money is no object.

Hey thanks jlafitte, azpeterb, veganbike for some sensible and helpful answers. Azperterb your insight to your dealings with Pelizzoli are well noted, so thanks for taking the time to give me your thoughts.

I'm big on the FOR3 so I'm thinking I may take a stab with that (and just suck up any customer service, slow responses for the sake of getting the frame). Also think the Dosnoventa Tokyo looked cool so trying to decide if carbon or Alu would be my preference.


hairnet and Scrodzilla i appreciate you taking the time to weigh-in but don't overestimate the opinion of yourself or anyone else here to 'tell me what to buy'. I did not ask for anyone to tell me what to buy but rather I'm asking for suggestions of frames/ makes and components I may have not come across and should be considering, i.e. smaller niche brands doing nice things that since I'm not heavily into bikes likely would not know of (this is likely not going to be a serious life passion for me but that doesn't mean i shouldn't have a nice high-quality bike if I want to). It's not a question of'not being ready' either, I'm sure many people on here would be more passionate about bikes than me so it seems perfectly reasonable to ask for suggestions from people with sound knowledge on the subject on what brands/ makes i may want to consider. Simply a matter of 'okay the frame options you may want to consider may be brandX, brandXX and brandXXX, etc'.

Pelizzoli. Don't do it, man.

Actually getting the frame would be what would worry me. I know I couldn't deal with it.
