I know you're just kidding, but there have been studies on this.

Another design criteria for the Pugs, was to have interchangeable wheels front and back. Apparently for extreme competitions like Iditarod, if your freehub failed, you could swap wheels. This would keep you from being stranded in what could potentially be a life or death situation.

I considered a Surly ICT when I bought my Lurch, (very similar frames with slightly different geometry). Ultimately it was price and wanting to avoid a press fit BB that steered me towards the Lurch.
I'm actually surprised they went with PF BB on that frame. The Wednesday (their newest fat bike) has a threaded BB.

4to5 under sprint load? I can't imagine it's 4 to 5 for like 200 watts.

I dunno, I just don't think that it's a big deal.

I've owned two BB30 frames and won races on both BB and English threaded setups, for the record

fwiw...I purposely went with the pugs over the ict and the Wednesday- and i had a choice. the 135mm rear hub and the 100mm threaded bb were features, not drawbacks.
head over to the fat bike mtbr forum and you'll see 170 and 190 hubs failing left and right. doesn't seem like any manufactures have been able to produce a hefty enough hub yet....they've just stretched the shell and not beefed any internals up. I'll take a frame that can accept pretty much any rear disc hub out there over a weaker hub design any day.

This is true, but i still have a weirdness about the asymmetry of the pugs, the "bent" seat/chain stays and the odd lacing on the rear wheel. I know it is a well tested and proven design, but i still have an odd reaction to it. It is is silly, I know, just look at the dish on any 10/11 speed wheel, lots of asymmetry.

This is an issue, but naively I believe with the numbers of fatbike out there, better hubs will be available by the time mine fails.

the only good wide fat hubs right now are industry9 and onyx and theyll run you 3-5 and change, which is doing a great job at keeping me from building another toy right now

Is this to reduce frame flex or to accommodate a bigger more durable bearing?

T47?

Its a 30mm spindle like the bb30 and pf30, but threaded bottom bracket cups instead of press fit bearings or cups.

iirc pf30 was to allow a stiffer cluster and allowing builders to use bigger tubing, t47 just does what they shouldve done with it in the first place
