sometimes I feel like you're a troll that works at a shop and since it's slow season, you created this masterpiece just to cause an uproar. hahahaha

I definitely do not work at a shop. Troll, I believe is someone who does not really contribute, I believe I contribute. My bikes are my main hobby and my main source of exercise. So, I spend what I can afford to make them cool to me. I do find humor if what I want to do to a bike bothers the elite/traditionalist.

I find that a bonus. But, none of it will be worth it if I do not like how it rides. Leaving to ride in about 30 minutes. :)

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=504910http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=504911A "normal" geared bike. Upgraded the brakes to XTR, swapped out the seatpost and bars to CF. From my "strangest" to my "normal" all the mods are to make my bikes "my" bikes.

IAmSam 02-16-16 10:27 AM

Oh jeebus...

I was planning on posting some snark about how ridiculous I think it is building JA bikes to get a rise out of others one wants to label as elitist, whom I would just consider to be sensible - and I have to see that you ride an Epic?

My last remaining MTB is an earlier 26" S-works Epic (which I love dearly but is broken down for drivetrain rebuilding ATM) so I guess I'll just bite my tongue & walk away peacefully :innocent:

OK, last pic. Got in a quick 25 miles this morning and my Venge project turned out better than I could have hoped for. The bike is great to ride and works really well. Plus, it really does look like it was meant to be this way, except maybe the cassette.

Climbs for days!

All you're missing is a set of compact cranks

Mumonkan 02-16-16 06:20 PM

i think its great, too many people get their panties in a bunch over someone elses bikes and how they dont fit their criteria of "correct"

i love enormous cassettes, "alternative" setups and any bike that actually gets ridden

im about 90% sure this is going on the fatbike and im sure people are gonna just lose their **** over it

Bikes are meant to be ridden, so whatever makes a person ride their bike more sounds like a good idea to me.

I love the Ritchey parts!

How wide of a bar and what stem length did you end up with on there? Looks super wide in pictures. I had the bar from my '10 StumpJumper FSR on my Carve but it ended up feeling way too wide. Now I have a set of Cinelli Peppers on there and it feels amazing.

I cut the bars down to 760. They still look super wide, but they felt good. I am going to get a couple more rides in before I decide whether or not to trim them any more. The stem is a Ritchey and is 35 degrees, and either 60 or 70 mms (I cannot remember). The bike is better than I had even hoped for, so I am very happy. Now, just little adjustments like seat angle and bar width, maybe.

TenSpeedV2 02-20-16 04:08 PM

Holy crap, cut them down to 760? How wide were they? Seems like it would be tough to ride that bike with bars that wide. Maybe not, you love it so it must feel alright.

Mumonkan 02-20-16 04:15 PM

since i got my specialized ive been wanting wider and wider bars, it came with 750 and im thinking of putting 780s on

i just feel like im in such control of the bike with wider bars

im gonna have a hard time finding drops that can satisfy me when i build my next road bike

People are weird and your bikes are dope. I have recieved weird looks at charity rides for some something as simple as using friction shifters. whatever

Fr. Capodanno Blvd by the boardwalk or Hylan Blvd? I've been to the dophin fountain. There was a deli we used to go to for lunch and then park by the water and eat.

All the reeds in your pics remind me of the many drives through SI to get to customers in NJ.
