Purefix FG/SS framset on sale for $99 - worth it?
hiya,
it's time to build up a new SS build and I'm looking into buying just the frame - I have 2/3rds of the parts I need from earlier builds so I'm not looking to buy a complete bike. I've been considering my options (weight is important to me). I wasn't initially considering a purefix as I've heard they're not awesome - but they having a sale with the framesets for $99. Does anyone have any thoughts on pure fix frames? Sales rep tells me:"The frame and fork weigh in around 9lbs. A fully built 50cm bike comes in at 22lbs".

Thanks for the input.

Low end frames are usually not a great deal compared to getting a complete. Do you already have all the parts? Building up a bike is a bad idea unless you have specific reasons for doing so and recognize that you will end up paying a lot more.

I spent nearly a grand on a custom build up. It never used any fancy parts (kilo tt frame, cxp22 wheels with Formula hubs) but all the little things a bike needs adds up pretty quickly.
I am glad I did it because I wanted the experience of building a bike from scratch to learn how it all works, but I doubt I'd do it again.

I'm also looking at Fyxation frames - weight is apparently 7lbs for a 49cm frame - I'm contacting them to find out whether or not they use straight gauge or double butted tubes. Price jump is significant, but I'm wondering whether it might be worth it.

I had purefix bike complete built from a shop for about $320. It got stolen 10 hours after I bought it. So....yeah.

Sounds heavy for a single speed. I do not know if you have had single speed(s) / fixed gear before, but after 30 years of riding/ working on them, I am addicted to having one with drop out adjuster screws. Makes for the best chain tension adjustment and reduces the chance of having the wheel pull over.

Definitely costs a lot more unless you already have parts laying around. When I first got into this I thought I'd save money and build a bike. Spent like a 800$ and got a bike that in reality was probably as good as a 300$ bike.
