Water me please...

I know most of you are hardcore and like things retro. But of those who ride fixed and have waterbottle bosses, do you have 1 or 2 or 3 cages on you bike?

i got one of those pedros wall mounted bottle openers. they fit perfectly on the water mounts. i highly recomend them!

Are you planning on using the results of this survey to dictate how many will be on your bike?

Well sort of.. I really like the smooth look of nothing but chain and wheels, but I am considering using this and trying a USCF race in fixed (you know with hills and stuff). So.. I think it is more practical with waterbottle bosses.

No bosses, I use a low-profile camelback knockoff from MEC wiht great success. No bottles + no seatbag = straight sexy lines.

you could also use those 'behind the saddle' tri-geek cages

it would be easier to get the bottle, since your legs won't be coasting. i don't really care for their looks, but does anyone know where to get those?

Water is for wussies. I drink the blood of roadkill.

Oh and I carry a bottle or two of high quality H2O in my jersey in case of lack of roadkill.

any LBS that caters to Tri folks sells them. Here in Toronto that is Enduro Sports. Not sure if they are online or not...

My usual ride doesn't have any. There's a reason the 2002 Fuji Track added bosses, I sure wish mine did.

I have a cage ziptied to the downtube and wouldn't mind having another cage on the seattube, actually.

Bikes: heh, like that info would fit here...

I did 250 miles over 3 days on my fixie last year. Bike has bosses for two bottles, and I also clamped a third under the down tube with an old steel cage clamp designed for such things. Seat tube is long enough that I could actually clamp another cage above the existing one...would make it hard to get out, but I'm more concerned with just having the water than having it easy to reach...also, I hate the feel of anything on my back during long rides. I sweat like a pig: need lots of water, need no clingy shirt or pack.

Why don't you add bosses? You can easily drill holes and insert rivnuts.
I've never done it, but I've heard its fairly simple, and some LBS's might do it, if you can't.

Because there are many solutions that don't involve puncturing the frame. Bar mounted cages, seatpost cages, clamp-on cages... Yeah, if I'm going to do it, that's my game right there.

Or a guy can go with zip ties.

Yea, but all of those options seem kinda kludgy to me. But that's just my take. It is your bike after all.

I like my old standby trick of the 'water bottle in the pants pocket'. Or on long rides the bottle goes in the middle pocket of my jersey.

LBS should have them. Profile design has those that attach to the seatpost? Or the seat and it gives you two water bottle mounts.

I'd like to know how durable these are. A fully weighted 750ml bottle x2 is going to heavily jar over a pothole or any kind of bumps which might result in breakage of said cages.

it is such a dilemma... err how about i just get two frames, one with bottle mounts and on without. that seems like the best solution.

Some of my bikes have cages, but lately I've just been keeping a 20oz Sigg bottle in a zo h2o bag on my belt.

Dude, this is the kid who wears plastic bags on his feet in the winter. I'm pretty sure he is not concerned with anything being considered "kludgy".

hey chzman, what's that 200mi ride in ohio? i'm in columbus, too, but am too far out of the loop to pick up on these things. i'd be interested in doing it -- 100mi in a day doesn't sound too raw.
