Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Added 3/32 19T EAI cog, 3/32 silver ACS Crossfire, and a Brooks C17 black saddle yesterday.

Loving my gear ratio for NYC 47:19

What would you guys upgrading next to keep this thing improving it's performance and ride quality ?!??! THANKS

Bikes: Tanglefoot Hardtack, Riv Sam Hillborne, a Purple Waterford

What is that, Felt Brougham? I rode one for a few years and I liked it quite a bit. As far as upgrades- get some sweet tires, unless you're going to be skidding.

I like Compass, but if you're skidding go for Paselas or something more reasonably priced.

Very nice.

I would add Ergon grips, remove the valve caps, and call it finished.

It's a Felt Brougham from Craigslist. Actually got it for a steal at $225 paid via Venmo (phone app similar to Paypal) ! Got to love rich couples who have a couple bikes and a husband who got a fixed gear to try and be cool, but realized it wasn't for him and that it just needed to go for storage reasons!!!

So far I've put about $225 into it. Crossfire 3/32 silver chain, EAI 19T cog, Brooks C17 black saddle, straps from Mott Street Cycles in NYC, and finally a set of Knog lights from amazon! (are lights are must for NYC?)

Oh and I don't really skid much at all... I was thinking of putting 28c Gatorskins on it !

What model Ergon grips? I don't like the ones that are shaped. Maybe the GE1s in black? And why Ergon?

the GA2 look nice too but aren't eligible for amazon prime

Whats a high end comfortable grip with a look that would be seamless for my ride in black for $50-100??

Well I was thinking the shaped ones - so if you're comfortable with what's on there then no change required.

I think you're the first person I've seen say they don't like the shaped ones though... they're like little Lazyboys for your hands.

Bikes: Trek Emonda SL6 .... Miyata One Thousand

add drop bars with bar end shifters, a brass crane suzu stem bell, slick tyres such as the compass or Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, stainless mudguards, dynamo hub with lights, a set of silver Kleen Kanteen reflect water bottles, a back rack and a set of pannier bags, and you will have an excellent commuter aswell as a good winter bike.

here's mine (work is still in progress):

here's as it was found:

here's as it looks now (I've also added a Brooks B15 Champion Narrow saddle aswell as a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 26x2" slicks since taking this photo

here is a good thread that will give you some ideas:

you know that frame has some good history? it is not worth millions or anything but if it in good shape could be worth a little coin to the right collector...
