Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Singlespped wanna be

I took my old huffy 18 speed savanah apart, it fits me like a glove but I decided to put a flip flop wheel on he back just make it a single speed. the crank is a basic axle and bearing set up. the chain rings have seen better days for sure . id like to put a three piece on here with a smaller front sprocket. would anyone here use the same set up it has stock or put the kit to make it a seled bottom bracket. what are my options with this single speed conversion

I wouldn't invest a lot of money in that bike, but if you want to do it right you should get a cartridge bottom bracket and a single speed crank.

I went wih a freewheel and a sealed bottom bracket .cost me 30 bucks for the pair ,I'm ok with that .simple cheap rout to make a singlespeed . I have a crank already.

Bikes: Couple of rigid MTB's and a fixed gear

You could just service the existing BB, throw on an inexpensive crank/SS chain ring and call it wrapped up. Your chain line will be happier when you get the rear wheel mounted, no matter which chainring you choose on the old one.

I don't see the flip flop on there now, so you'll probably need to respace the back end, too.

I decided to just pull cogs and go with a free wheel 16 tooth I watched a bikemanforu video .it was cheaper to buy a 7 dollar freewheel than a new rim, should work pretty easy for 7 bucks just waiting on mail to bring it now..
