I have some freshly serviced basic pedals.

Vincentrodr 09-28-17 10:59 AM

I need a little help, Im trying to build a bike and was wondering if a Record Pista crankset would be compatible with an aventon cordoba frame with the push wheel set.

Short answer is yes. Compatibility has nothing to do with the frame or wheels, provided you use the correct bottom bracket.

Unkle Rico 09-28-17 08:40 PM

Yep and what TT means by that is the spindle length!

Unkle Rico 09-28-17 08:49 PM

Ok.. Best tire levers..

Ready, GO

Crank Brothers Speedier Lever. End of the discussion no need for any debate on this. If you disagree you are just wrong and your opinion is invalid. Not trying to offend just here stating facts, water is made of two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecule, the Battle of Hastings is over and you are wrong.

TejanoTrackie 09-28-17 09:09 PM

Wow, I wasn't aware that hydrogen and oxygen are molecules. Learn something new every day.

MTB kit: pedro's levers

Road kit: park tool TL-1 levers (the model that's being phased out)

I know a lot of people like pedro's levers but their tip is too blunt/ boxy for road tires IMO.

For road tires, I prefer a narrower/ pointed tip to help me more easily get underneath tighter beads. The TL-1 happens to fit that bill perfectly, not to mention they're dirt cheap. They're a bit more petite than the pedro but as long as you dont attempt to pry both left and right beads at once or while it's wedged to the rim you should be fine.

TejanoTrackie 09-28-17 09:41 PM

Yeah, the Park TL-1 is the best, and they also hook onto the spoke to keep one in place while you work with a second one. I've got a bunch of them and just keep two in each bike's seat bag. Pretty durable too, I've yet to break one.

:crash: hydrogen and oxygen are not molecules on their own, they are atoms. however 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom can bond to form a water molecule. yeah, science

Don't want to venture into the Road cycling sub...

A friend offered me a well used box section 36 spoke wheel with a record hub for free.

Should I use that with this https://www.niagaracycle.com/categor...0-11-cassettes

Or should I go out and buy what would be a cheap replacement wheel with a Shimano compliant hub for the road bike?

Unkle Rico 09-29-17 09:53 AM

Sweet, thanks for the advice my good peeps! Gonna get some ParkTool ones..

Good ideas for carrying water when frame has no bottle cage mounts? I can't imagine strap-on cages working with my frame due to tube shape. Started looking at saddle mounted stuff, but I also like to use a saddle bag for tubes/tools, so... *scratching head* My previous solution was to just stuff a bottle in a jersey pocket, and I might keep doing that if I can't figure out something better.

scoho 10-04-17 07:51 PM

Obvs.

Just what the doctor ordered! My new cruiser has unusually tight tires, and I've been carrying a Kool Stop Bead Jack with the handle cut off, but this looks a lot more compact.

Pressing Bearings

Do bearing drafts have a slightly smaller diameter than the outside race of the bearing?

I have a Rolf Vigor FX wheel. The bearings (6902) sit about 3-4mm into the hub. I have pressed wheel bearings before, but never bought any tools - I just used the old bearing and washers since the bearings went in flush with the hubs. If I used the old bearings as a draft, it would get stuck in the hub.

I emailed Rolf and they said they have their own tools. I emailed Wheels Manufacturing and they never replied. I don’t want the draft to get stuck in the hub. What do you guys use?

The old bearing ground down slightly on its outer diameter.

I tried every solution out there and wound up going back to a big bottle in the jersey pocket and drinking as much as possible before a ride and when opportunities present themselves during a ride. Camel up.

Very hot weather is a challenge but workable as long as water is available. Other riders tend to be supportive if I let them know I will need to stop during the ride and make the stops quick. In their minds it adds to the mystique of fixed gear. :p

NUUN or GU tabs are convenient for making electrolytes in places where only straight H2O is available.

Have a frame builder add bosses. It can be done without a torch, so no scorched paint. I can't imagine it would be expensive based on how little time the job takes.

Unkle Rico 10-05-17 10:16 AM

I bet you could rivet something on which wouldnt require and heat source at all?

Scrodzilla 10-05-17 12:27 PM

Rivnuts can be added to just about any frame pretty easily.

Unkle Rico 10-05-17 02:34 PM

Or that

seau grateau 10-05-17 06:36 PM

Thanks, y'all. Rivnut option looks interesting, might look into having that done.

Your use of the term "cruiser" has me concerned - in case you didn't realize it, these things are meant for skinny tires...

We have everything you need to do that at Bikerowave if you care to venture to the west side.

Friends,
Please help identify the clicketyclackety sound my bike is making.
I can't tell if its the BB or the freewheel. I have a hard time getting it to make the noise in a work stand - it seems to only do it under load, and on and off.

checoles 11-13-17 10:38 AM

My chain makes a sound like that if I have it tightened too hard. Sometimes if the front chainring is ever so slightly out of centre, it'll tug it like a bio-pace ring. But that's at a guess, try riding with the chain slackened to have about half inch of travel up and down.
