I think fixed gear or fixed wheel makes most sense. I see no need to use the term "fixie" unless my bike was "brokie".

When I think of "Fixie" I think of deep V's, flat bar with then ends chopped off, no brakes and Lucas Brunelle style riding.
I tried to do that but felt silly. I got thirsty, reached down for a bottle and nothing was there. Its fine if that's your thing but it isn't mine.
Now I ride a road bike which just happens to be fixed gear. The only thing which separates it from a regular road bike is that it lacks shifters, derailleurs and a freewheel. I've ridden with groups where some don't even realize it is a single speed until a half hour into the ride.
"Holy badword, that's a single speed!" I usually just reply, "Fixed."

To me, the term "fixie" comes across as a sign of a noob. Not a bad thing, we're all noobs to start with, but it casts some overall doubt on the user's level of experience/familiarity with bikes as a whole.

When I worked as a car messenger in Manhattan in 1978, the bike messengers and the car messengers were in separate cliques. But one day when my car was in for service and I rolled up on a bike, the first bike messenger I saw grinned and said "Yo! Frejus fix!"

I like to think of my Fuji as a 'Sw8 Fixxay', and my Little Wing as a 'Sikk Phiksie' as is befitting their relative 'street cred' 
(actually, I usually just go with 'Fixed Gear' for either, or 'track bike', as they both are)

I've been using "velodrome bike" more frequently with non bike people, as in, "you know how in a velodrome, the riders cannot coast on their bikes?". They just might know what a velodrome is, and may have seen the riders on the track on TV.
This, despite the sad fact that my fixed gear has brakes, and has never seen the inside of a velodrome. Sad.
