Bikes: several. blue. fun.

So, we were thinking that, instead of engaging in our usual half-drunk late-night riding, we might do something constructive with our half-drunk late-night ride this time. ok, so i'm not sure how constructive it will be, but there will probably be greenpeace hippies there, and that will be amusing to make fun of, at least.

We're signing up for Wednesday night from 10pm-12 midnight. That way, there's plenty of time for drinks before and after. Who knows, maybe we'll do the ride Keirin-style. I mean, there won't be much traffic, and it is around in a circle...

mods: please don't move this to advocacy. i don't think they'd appreciate the sparks-angle we take on these things.

i'm checking and it seems like most happy hours are long over by 8pm. let's meet somewhere that we can get beer in pitchers and food... recessions? stoneys? the ever-popular patio at the Exchange? i'm just a little worried that we'll be fighting the post-kickball crowd (*shudder*) whereever we go.

There's always sparks on the schedule, but it's BYO in this case. Make sure you pick it up before 10pm.

OK, let's say Lucky Bar, 8pm-ish. I'll be a little late and will roll in on a gray steamroller. I have blonde hair and glasses. Sounds like we'll have at least 4 folks. Boo yeah.

Emayex - pm me.

I have to meet relatives in Dupont at around the same time. When do you plan on rolling out of Lucky Bar? I'll try to meet up then.

We're supposed to be at the WH around 10, so we'll probably roll out around, say, 10? Check your pm for my #.

ok, so it seems like there's a bunch of other folks doing it, so if we get too drunk to show up and ride with the hippies, that's cool.

the route is clockwise, penn to 15 to constitution to 17 to penn. simple enough.
we can practice madisons
and keirin race it
and have trackstand contests in front of the white house
(and maybe skids across the granite plaza in front of the white house?)
and if it gets boring,
we can always leave and go back to the bar.

if you need my #, pm me.

be careful there, tink, your new signature file is confusing. with two x's and the swords crossed on the flag, that adds up to XXX. someone might mistake you for *gasp* straightedge.

i think the good people of the forum do deserve to hear the highlights of the actions we took last night to show our dedication to the cause that we were riding for, which had something to do with the G8/Kyoto Treaty/hippiedom.

Memorable moments include...
tink dropping his cell phone earpiece into a full pint of beer
emayex sacrificing his water bottle for the good of humanity
dc emily suggesting we drink shots of GM, and me not knowing what that is
MrFusion realizing that we weren't kidding when we talked about BYO sparks
tink leaving skid marks and literally burning his tire a bit, right in front of the white house
MrFusion revealing himself to the group, and closing two bars last night with me
me shouting unintelligible angry crap towards the white house
and all of us drinking sparks right in front of the white house.

As soon as I get around to building my new wheels, I'll have an extra you can borrow. Or, if you're in a hurry, you can build my new rear wheel...

That sounds like it was a lot of fun. I don't know that I would ever be able to make it into the city at night, but I would like to check out Critical Mass next month.
