Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

First single speed Sunday in a year!

The last year has been rough, rough enough that Friday was my first ride in 12 months. I brought De Selby the ‘73 Raleigh Competition with the Surly Dingle/WI Dos Eno setup along on the family vacation and did 14 slow miles running 70-in fixed Friday. This morning my hindquarters were having none of it, so I flipped the wheel ‘round and did a leisurely 7.6 miles on a 60-in freewheeling gear, grateful for the opportunity to coast every so often. Pix are from today except for the bonus pic of the deer almost close enough to touch - near the middle of Edisto Beach!

2009 Specialized Langster.
I ride it SS but Fixed is an option. It originally had drops but I swapped them for bulls.
One of my favourite bikes for solo rides.......

Thanks. Asking as I’ve been offered this one. It’s about 5 hours drive. Described as in excellent condition apart from rust on handle bars. Wants the local equivalent of £120.

The weather this weekend has been spectacular, so I headed out for a late morning ride today. I suffered defeat on one of the hills:

It just went on for too long, so I walked maybe the second half. ^ Ready to roll again at the top.

Sunday Library run on my favorite new fixed gear build.
It has a Dingle on it, and 700x35 tires.
one cog for the paved roads, and I can slip it to an easier gear for Sandy canal paths.
im still fine tuning it, but it’s coming together nicely.

Great job. Must give you a lot of satisfaction knowing you built it when you’re out riding it.
