Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

i can see how that could be...so it would have to be regular letters, no caps.

I think I just talked myself into getting a Pista in that other thread (legit track geometry, fixed-fixed rear hub, sugino RD cranks all for $500)

I'll take a couple of those shirts if I ever take this Pista on Bart to SF.

to keep this godawful thread alive:

i equate having a big posenger bag to having a trunk on a car.

t_i_p said it well. when i need to carry gear the bag comes in handy. 19" rack equipment fits comfortably in my bag, along with my laptop and other party favors. it also comes in handy when i'm getting some kitty litter or groceries or going book shopping. do i carry it with me always? i try to be good about it.

i went for a lap around the city, without my bag -- sportcoupe mode. it felt great -- no sweaty back. but then i remembered i wanted a couple of books. long story short, i tucked the books underneath my cycling jersey and weighted the tomes on my chain. i made it all the way home without any incident. would i have liked to have my bag? yeah. nothing like soggy books for reading on a humid day.

really guys, you aren't-what-you-own-but-you-are, and i think this resentment is kind of silly. i was thinking of using the three letter word that starts with a g and ends with a-y, but that would turn into a PC flame war. Godwin didn't work, ninja's didn't work, what will?

Bags used for cargo purposes seem to be popular in this forum. I noticed that the non- sticky threads with the 5th and 6th most replies (behind this thread) aren't about bikes they are about bags.

My theory is that most people drawn to a fixed gear are the frugal type rather than the poseur type . THerefore they will tend to use their bike for practical/utility purposes (in contrast to roadie type who deliberately makes it known they are riding for "sporting purposes" only by wearing stuff you wouldn't be caught dead in off a bike...lol)

The upshot is why condemn those who are trying to be frugal?

Wow....wasn't this thread about spoke cards at one point?
