so i gave up my edge, and, while i was at it, my christianity. tattoos representing both ill-advised lifestyle choices will be covered up on august 6th. then i can wear shorts again.

I don't mind the straightedge lifestyle (heck, it works for the seventh day adventists), its the wishing death upon people who don't follow it that doesn't sit right with me. I try, as a general rule, not to wish death on anyone.
And just to keep my good name clean, I've not been seriously drunk in a very long time. I do like to have a beer with meals, and sometimes three or four beers or mixed drinks with friends, but 'smashing drunk' or 'falling over drunk' or 'puking drunk' isn't something I do these days. Last time I rode my bike 'drunk', I had probably had 3 or 4 drinks over a course of an evening. I wasn't comfortable driving a car, but I had no trouble riding. I've never had to wobble down a street bumping into every parked car.
peace,
sam

That makes me think that maybe phidauex was on to something with regards to level of intoxication. That's in no way meant to be levelled as a judgement against your co-worker, but I do know that if I'm at the bar or at someone's house drinking, and I know I have to bike home, probably I'm not going to drink like I would if I were hosting the party.

Obviously there are different levels of intoxication- but there is often plenty of bluster and bravado around here with the "I was so wasted..." posts. Alcohol has a disinhibiting effect- and can make it easy to forego safe riding. This guy wasn't hit by a car either... lest one think cars were the evil.

Drunken biking, like all things, requires moderation. Know your limits, know when to start drinking soda, and know when to say "screw it, I'm walkin' the damn bike home." Be safe, kids.

as for the bravado, i guess when i hear posts about how so-and-so was so drunk he fell off his bike three times on the way home, i think 'man, that sounds awful. buzzed is different than bombed.
