Proposal, subjects.

I propose...Asshats be given to, and must be worn by people starting threads on the following subjects:
  • Legal issues: Running red lights, stop signs, riding on sidewalks, etc. I recommend trying your luck in an advocacy forum.
  • Messenger Bags: this is a topic more suited to the commuting forum, in lieu of a messenger forum, of which there is none, and if you are asking, you are not one.
  • Messengers: (this is not a messenger forum, this is a "Singlespeed & Fixed Gear" forum).
  • Hipsters: I'm sure your comments would be better appreciated on myspace.com.
  • Clothing: Though I haven't seen this one in a while, the "What should I wear on my fixie" threads were a bit disturbing. (These are probably the same type of people who post the "why are people looking at me funny" threads).

At the risk of sounding like an a55hole, this forum is beginning to really suck.
I propose we keep it to singlespeed and fixed gear subject; And no, your rant does not count if you start it with "While I went out for for a midnight drunk ride on my fixie".

Just a suggestion,
Carl.

Damn. And I was about to start a thread about this guy who called me a "hipster" after I blew through a red light then a stop sign. So I am suing him for slander. Since I have worked as a messenger and have a messenger bag. So now I do not have a clue what to wear to court since I am riding my fixie to get there. . .

. . .Oh well. . .off to myspace I go.

Before I came here all I read was "hipster" this and "hipster that".( you guys were out to lunch). Look at the influence I already have on this forum?

Thank God you guys are waking up. I guess all it takes a slap in the face to see reality sometimes. I'm glad I could do that for you.

#5 and #6 on the list of non-sticky threads with the most posts are about bags. I don't really care about these threads though because people here use their bikes for a lot of their needs.

People have no shame about their stupidity. Same people who start threads about drinking and blowing thru stop signs were the same people telling me the Pista comes with a crooked chainline from the factory (total BS just like everything else about their posts)

...or you could just not click on the threads that don't interest you. Part of the deal with this or any other forum is that you begin to develop friendships and relationships with other members and from time to time there is more to talk about than how to skid, whether anyone has experience with the Nessuno from Business Cycles, or if a Schwinn Varsity is a good candidate for fixie conversion. Chill...ss/fg is about a subculture of riding not just hardware.

Peace.

You know, there's a beautiful feature called "Ignore" where if you enter a member's name, you no longer see their posts. It works beautifully.

I propose that asshats should be worn by complainers who start threads for the sole purpose to complain about other threads. Under your conceptual framework, this thread should be sent to hell for its lack of fixie/ss content.

Heaven forbid our posts should actually be interesting and funny and not about the menutia of bike parts and maintenence

Myspace, News Corp says, could drive traffic to Fox Interactive Media.
And most importantly, Myspace has detailed logs of its users' preferences, online behaviour and personal information.
That could help the company tailor what it does to the ever-more-discerning market which Mr Murdoch believes he has identified.

not that any of this really maters on a bike forum

I heartily recomment the 'ignore' feature. It really has helped my blood pressure, at least in the past. (It's hard to use it when you are a MOD. )

P.S.

To all those people who are pointing out the "Ignore" option.

a) That also applies to you and this thread.
b) You seem to be entirely void of any sense of humor.

Thank you, that is all.

i think the ignore button should be labled the "ignore, but quickly unignore so you can see what they said, then put them back on ignore again" button. at least that's how i've been using it.

I'm not sure if that asshat would go over my helmet. But then again, how many of us fixies really wear helmets anyway? Maybe that would make a good poll/thread... And what if I only ride my fixie one or two days a week. Can I still post here? Oh, and what about the term "fixie" anyway? Sounds kind of hipsterish to me.

I am willing to don the asshat as an example to those who might consider such a crime, I am a fair man. I feel that this will officially make me a martyr for the betterment of this board, which is sooo emo, right? Furthermore, I recognize that it is my duty to pass said asshat on to people who reply to sarcastic, "trollish" posts with self righteous drivel.

Under your conceptual framework, this thread should be sent to hell for its lack of fixie/ss content.
I wholeheartedly agree. And once the "sending to hell" commences, I will need no further persuasion. It should be noted that this is not an area where silent protest or passive aggressive tactics would have had much effect. I heard the call, and acted (sound the trumpets!) , realizing that one additional meaningless post would have had such a small effect on the SNR of this board. Maybe it was a bad move. I found the idea funny, but I didn't expect anyone to get their panties in a bunch about it.

Heaven forbid our posts should actually be interesting and funny and not about the menutia of bike parts and maintenence
It is apparent that the meaning of the words "interesting and funny" do not mean the same thing to you that they do to me.

Anyway, It was mostly a joke based on my feelings on the 'vibe' of this board. You should really not take it (and this board, yourself) so seriously. If you are not as annoyed by these topics as I am, please, continue to post them.

Oh yeah, and I would also like to add the "brake/no brake" debate to the list, as well as any variations of the "how do I skid" threads.

Thank you all for your time.

Carl.

Carl, I shall take up your asshat banner and wear it myself as simultaneous declaration of solidarity with fellow asshats and a declaration of wear against further asshattery. (Tip o' the asshat to sam, too, for an awesome avatar.)
