Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Where have you found all these gem track bikes? ( I don't actually expect an answer) I have been looking for interesting track frames daily for years with only a few worth buying. Using the NY city facebook has helped but other wise I'm beginning to think you have bought them all! Keep posting them, I love looking at the older bikes.

Here is my newly painted Raleigh Pro changed to a Robin Hood. I got the decal order in just before Velocals closed. This is used as either a fixed gear or a Sturmey 3spd. I've had it and ridden it alot over the last 30 years. Mafac Competition brakes, MA2 rims, Galli crank with Campi thick chainring. Just a BB lock ring holding the cog onto a regular old Normandy high flange. I only threaded it off once in thousands of miles. Stem has a braze on for a bell and some other braze ons were added a few years ago. No fenders or racks on it in it's current incarnation, but probably coming soon.

Warm enough to ride a bit today.

Polish breadbags heavily modified!

Hand stiched leather on the old tourist levers.

The Robin Hood they never made.

just finished this bike! still needs a bit of dialing, i swapped to this fork for the ability to mount a brake and run a bigger front tire.

I took my 86 Paramount track bike out for a 32 mile ride yesterday. I had a set of wheels built for it last week, H and Sons polished rims with a set of open bearing high flange Dura Ace 36 spoke hubs. I mounted a set of Black Edition Gator skins on them

The bike is great to ride.

The shifty bits on this Kuwahara were worse for wear, and the horizontal dropouts also called for singlespeedification.

The original wheels had a freehub but the rims were shot; the donor bike offered up a freewheel instead. (I could add a second chainring for an easy dinglespeed.)

Just curious: why left hand drive? Did you swap the pedal axles? Or use a tandem crank?

@ JohnDThompson:I made my bike a left hand drive, originally with a much cheaper crankset as an experiment, it worked as a proof of concept, so I did the final set up with with an Andel classic and Dura Ace ring. The reasoning, was both just to be different and have fun.

Originally was going to go with Tandem crankset, but 165mm length ones that I could find were very expensive. So ultimately, I converted my own by doing a helicoil insert so that I could run SPD pedals.

Really loving all the posts about the pre WW1 track bikes. I've always been really interested in those but they are really expensive to own and find parts for.
