Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: Rideable; 83 Schwinn High Sierra. Two cruiser, bmx bike, one other mtb, three road frames, one citybike.

I got this earlier this year. Two folks at the co-op claim it's a Puegeot. I am finally gonna have a ninja bike.

I was lucky to find a black fork that fit it there, the hardest thing I would've had to look for. Just gonna need to touch up the paint, or repaint it. Try and save that sticker.

well.... that's something! definitely keep the sticker or find an identical one.
if it's ready by Thanksgiving, maybe we can meet for coffee in the 'ville so I can see it first hand. my xTreame Beater Schwinn is probably moving back to my inlaws to live there as a zero bike.
I'm planning to keep it a 2spd. maybe.

You from the Ville? Hell yeah. I haven't rode in a while, right now my bikes are down. I usually ride with what used to be Bike.Cruise.Brews, but it's kinda turned into a few splinter groups; Queers With Gears, Twilight Tuesdays, Outsiders Cycling. My girl just got a Concord Pacifica, so I'm trying to convert this Seachange I have into a single speed to ride with her, and I have this, that just needs a flat changed, a Nishiki Olympic. I really wish I could find a black fork for it. So many projects, so little money.

Love the red steel fixed gear commuter set up. Rear rack panniers. Nice rear rack top bag. Fenders for rain and snow. Nice stainless steal bottles to keep drinks warm or cold. I have a similair set up on a steel fixed gear with wide tire clearance and knobby tires too.

I don't know whether to be sad the bike has been allowed to rust away,or impressed that it has almost perfectly matching patinas.

Cool lookling bike. Do you "spin out" with that low gear setup?

Spins out around 14mph . Plenty fast enough for me .
i actually wish it were around 10mph , then it’d be easier on the hills around here .
I'm a Cruiser , not a racer .

My Ridgeland was clearance priced at $54

This bike was clearance priced ($54) at my local Walmart. I rode it home.

Regreased all the bearings.
Installed taller bars.
Raised steering stem to the high limit.
Installed a seat from my Mongoose fat bike.

The stock gearing (40 x18 x (700x38c); 61 gear inches) works well for me (76, 5'9", 200#).

It's been a fun introduction to SS bikes.

Beautiful setup (what caliper is that?) and great picture! Is that a Big Block?

ty ty !

good eye, yep, it's a 2020 Big Block frame that i had stripped & powder coated but originally came in the same colorway as TejanoTrackie 's, built as gravel grinder for Sacramento's river trails but I added the Paul Comp brake set after moving back to the city a couple years ago, and every moving part is Phil Wood other than the brake set, chain, and pedals

One of three fixed gear bikes--Viner Special Corsa made from Reynolds 531. I bought this on the auction site many years ago from a seller in Netherlands and perhaps that is why it has English threading (much to my surprise when I tried to install a bottom bracket.) Sugino 75 cranks and BB, Mavic 520 track hubs and rims, Schwalbe G-One 30mm tubulars, Brooks Swift titanium, Nitto bullhorn, Cinelli stem, American Classic seat post, and Dura Ace front brake all done up in Mardi Gras colors.

Newbie question: Is it acceptable to post pictures of my other two fixed bikes here as I have already posted them elsewhere?
